Savannah Guthrie was caught off guard as tennis player Roger Federer shared a special message with The Today Show in which he begged her to stop ‘avoiding’ him

Savannah Guthrie promised to make amends after being accused of “avoiding” Roger Federer.

The renowned tennis player sent a video message to The Today Show during Friday’s episode ahead of his Super Bowl commercial with the shoe brand On. Carson Daly introduced the clip as she teased, “Savannah it comes with a special message just for you.”

Roger then said Savannah hadn’t seen him in a while. “Hi Savannah, I hope you’re doing well. It’s a long time, we haven’t seen each other. Are you avoiding me ever so slightly? I’m not sure,” Roger questioned as he appeared on screen.

Savannah seemed shocked by Roger’s comments as she was seen watching the clip with her mouth hanging open. Roger then spoke about his commercial, which saw him team up with Sesame Street’s Elmo.

Roger finished by urging the Today Show star to visit him. “I really hope you like it. You’re the first to see it and come to Switzerland. See you soon, bye Savannah,” he said.

Savannah was apologetic and promised to make it up to Roger. Once his video ended, she told her co-anchors, “Sorry, I’m doing my airline ticket right now.”

Carson joked, “Wouldn’t it be great if that was just a Super Bowl ad.” Roger’s commercial then debuted on the show, with Savannah sharing her congratulations to her friend. “Good job, Rog. See you in Switzerland,” she said.

Carson asked Savannah if she would take her husband Michael Feldman on the trip to visit Roger. “Of course. Rog likes Mike better than he likes me, like most of you,” she joked in response.

Savannah has been pals with Roger for years and can often be seen cheering him on at his tennis matches. And she’s not the only one in her family with a soft spot for the athlete.

Savannah’s mom Nancy Guthrie has also met Roger, with Savannah sharing pictures of their interaction on Instagram. “And mom got to meet him too,” she wrote alongside the snaps.
