Piers Morgan demanded a swift apology from The Telegraph after they accidentally attributed a quote about Ghislaine Maxwell to him in a new interview. On Saturday (February 14), the Uncensored host took to X/Twitter to share his frustration after his recent interview with the outlet. Sharing a snippet from their exclusive chat in the weekend paper, the 60-year-old journalist recalled what it was like meeting the disgraced American socialite.

They published: “Piers Morgan met her [Maxwell] briefly at a book launch and found her ‘smart, confident and charming’. ‘There was nothing when I met her, which would imply anything nefarious, or that she would have this dark, depraved other life that was going on, ’ he says.

Had a few people ask me what the hell I was thinking saying this last quote to the ⁦@Telegraph⁩ today re Ghislaine Maxwell. “’I was genuinely completely shocked when it all came out about her’.” The publication then incorrectly attributed a final quote to Morgan, which read: “I think Ghislaine has been made a scapegoat and should not be in prison.” In fact, this quote originated from Lady Victoria Hervey.

After purchasing the paper, he flocked to the social media platform to share his fury and demand an apology. He fumed: “Had a few people ask me what the hell I was thinking, saying this last quote to the @telegraph today re Ghislaine Maxwell.

“To which the answer is I didn’t, Victoria Hervey did, as the Telegraph has acknowledged. They will be correcting the bad error and apologising to me.” It didn’t take long for followers to flock to the comments to voice their disappointment online.

One user asked: “How the hell can words like that be ‘accidentally’ made up?” as another suggested: “Sue, no one else was confused about this.”

Less than 24 hours later, Piers returned to X to share the Telegraph’s apology to him for their “egregious mistake” online. It read: “Piers Morgan – Apology. An article, ‘Maxwell’s whole ethos was: keep Epstein happy’ (Feb, 14) wrongly attributed this quote by Lady Victoria Hervey to Piers Morgan: ‘I think Ghislaine has been made a scapegoat and should not be in prison’.

“In fact, as Mr Morgan’s actual quote made clear, he considered Ghislaine Maxwell’s behaviour shocking and depraved. Mr Morgan has asked us to make clear that he has never expressed anything other than condemnation for Maxwell and her heinous actions. We apologise to Mr Morgan for any distress and embarrassment caused by this error.”
