Today hosts Savannah Guthrie and Craig Melvin have been at the helm of the show together since Hoda Kotb quit in January 2025.
The pair are a regular fixture for viewers who were left surprised when they tuned in to the NBC offering on Monday May 26 to find neither of the anchors presenting on their screens. Instead they had been replaced by Laura Jarrett and Peter Alexander who joined regular weather host Dylan Dreyer on the show.
Fans who watch seven days a week will know that Laura and Peter usually present Weekend Today. The pair explained that they were covering for Savannah and Craig in order for them to have a long weekend for Memorial Day.
In order for the show’s presenting team to make the most of some time off with their families The Third Hour segment of the show was pre-recorded, which meant that Dylan and Al Roker could also make the most of the break.

Craig replaced Hoda as co-anchor after already having been part of the Today team for several years. At the time Savannah made her delight known saying it was “one of the most popular decisions NBC News has ever made.”
She said: “The larger staff found out this morning, and people broke into applause. This is one of the most popular decisions NBC News has ever made. Congratulations.”
Craig admitted his excitement for the role telling Good Housekeeping: “The Today show has been around for more than 70 years now. No one wants to be the guy steering the ship when it runs aground. I basically want to continue the tradition that’s been established.”
He also said of Savannah: “I am most excited about working alongside Savannah Guthrie.” Craig made his debut in the new position on January 13, with his wife and children and parents Lawrence and Betty-Jo all coming in to the studio to surprise him.

Stunned at seeing them there Craig exclaimed: “When I left this morning, you were all in bed!”
Following his introduction into the new role Craig and Savannah gave a joint interview to Parade where she heaped praise on her new co-anchor.
She told him: “You have to be able to interview a president, interview a head of state, and you have to turn on a dime and then be ready to introduce to the world the latest pygmy hippo.”
She added: “He’s just one of those people who has this infectious, magnetic personality, and that’s not something that’s turned on for TV. That’s who he is. He loves people, so people love him.”
