Sir Rod Stewart was met by a unanimous response from fans as he shared a breaking update with his 1.6 million Instagram followers. The chart-topping music legend posted a clip to the social media site, which saw him wrapped up against the cold in a red turtleneck sweater and heavy black coat. Looking excited, he admitted he was delighted at the latest update from his beloved Celtic Football Club.

“He’s gone. He is gone! Wilfried Nancy has been fired. Or he left. I don’t care. He’s just not at Celtic,” he enthused. The rocker was referring to the news that Celtic officially sacked Wilfried Nancy as manager just 33 days after he was appointed to replace Brendan Rodgers at Parkhead. Rod continued: “Now we face Dundee at the weekend. I’m going to be up there for this game, mate. Don’t you worry. We need Martin back. We need you back, Martin O’Neill. Just get us through the end of the season, and maybe we can get Robbie Keane,” he pleaded. “That would be heaven-sent.”

He ended the message joyfully exclaiming he was off to the pub to celebrate as his fans took to the comments to share their feelings about the news, with the majority agreeing with the star’s sentiments.

“Best news this year,” one fan remarked. “Fantastic. Well said, Rod Bhoy,” another added alongside the applause emoji.

A third chimed in: “Thank the Lord!! Now, Nicholson and Mackay should follow suit! MON needs to come in to settle the players and build their confidence.”

A fourth penned: “Best news of the day.” Meanwhile, a fifth shared: “Feel exactly the same, Rod, it’s like winning the lottery. My mental health was all over the place with Nancy in charge. COYBIG.”

Rod has been very vocal about his dislike of Wilfried since his appointment and the former manager addressed it in a press conference on Friday January 2.

“Everyone is entitled to their opinion. I am who I am. I know what I want to achieve. As you know, I joined mid-season, so this is the reality. I’m delighted to be here. This is a renowned club, so everyone has a right to voice their opinion.

“I have no issue with that. I can also understand the criticism due to our results. However, when we delve deeper, as I’ve said, I see what needs to be done. I see progress. Not everyone may notice this because the focus is heavily on results, which is completely understandable.

“When we win, we’re elated. When we lose, it’s hard to accept. But this is the reality of the situation. I’m not saying I’m content with this. What I am saying is that we’re working on it and I’m confident we’ll turn things around,” he said.
