Just When Everyone Thought His Career Had Peaked AL ROKER Drops BOMBSHELL About A SURPRISING Milestone That LEFT The Entire Studio In SILENCE
Al Roker has a massive career update to share — and it’s one that has him feeling grateful.
The TV personality has been working in the world of journalism for many years, and folks have loved seeing the longtime star on the Today show since 1996. Now, his efforts as a weatherman and broadcast news reporter are being recognized in a major way, thanks to an announcement revealed by Deadline on May 29.
According to the outlet, Al is one of the honorees to accept a lifetime achievement award from the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences (NATAS) at the 46th annual News and Documentary Emmy Awards on June 25, 2025. And if that’s not enough, he voiced his gratitude for the major nod when Craig Melvin, Carson Daly, Jenna Bush Hager, Savannah Guthrie and Dylan Dreyer congratulated Al for the milestone on the NBC daytime series.
“I’m very honored, I will admit. I really am,” Al stated in a video posted on YouTube. “I’m very humbled by it.”
But that’s not all Al had to say about the career achievement. When Variety also announced his news, he stated what an “incredible honor” this is for him.
“I’m just another indication of either an end-of-career or end-of-life award,” he shared in an official statement. “Either way, I am so thankful to be the recipient of the Lifetime Achievement Emmy and thank everyone that I’ve worked with who held me up and helped me achieve this great honor.”
When fans discovered Al would be marking his broadcast news career in such a major way, folks hurried to congratulate him online.
“Congratulations to Al Roker for an Emmy award!” one person wrote in the YouTube comments. “Congratulations Sir! You are an American legend.👏❤️,” another declared on Instagram. “Congrats to a wonderful person! Glad to be friend!” a different viewer added.
And it turns out he’s not the only person being recognized for his work in the news industry. His wife, ABC News reporter Deborah Roberts, will be inducted into NATAS’ Silver Circle Honor Society for her 25 years in the field, while producer and documentary filmmaker Jon Else will also receive a lifetime achievement award for his work on June 26
