The weatherman has taken absences from the Today Show several times during his nearly two-decade tenure on the morning news show, as he’s battled health scares, including cancer, and also taken extended absences due to familial troubles and new work commitments.

Now, not long after taking an absence from the show due to a devastating death in his family, and surprising fans with his quick return, he is reassuring fans that he is taking care of his health–and inspiring them in the process.

Roker found praise from fans after taking to social media with health and safety tips
The clip, posted on Wednesday, showed him working out inside, as he admitted he wanted to initially head outdoors, but couldn’t because of the dangerous weather conditions.

“Man this heat and humidity is rough, I was going to try to do an outside walk this morning, nuh-uh,” he said.

He also reminded his fans and followers to take care of their own health, offering advice for staying healthy amid the three Hs–heat, humidity, and humpday.

“Hope you’re staying strong, make sure you’re hydrating,” he said.

In his caption, he wrote, “Whew!!! The 3 H’s: #hot #humid #humpday Let’s be careful out there,” along with the hashtag #somethingisbetterthannothing.

In the comments, several fans commended him for showing how he stays healthy, admitting they found him to be an inspiration in their lives.

“Go Al! You’re such an inspiration,” one person wrote.

“Keep moving Al you are inspiring many!!!” a second said.

“Good morning Al! You’re a true inspiration to all of us in our late 60s and early 70s,” a third added.

“Oh Yes Al Stay Hydrated!! This weather has truly been tough on a lot of us. Your such an inspiration!! God bless u and Debra always!” a fourth shared.

“Uncle Al! Once again, you’re an inspiration for us to keep moving forward,” a fifth praised.

The praise for Roker comes nearly five years after he shared he had been diagnosed with prostate cancer. He underwent surgery at the time and has since been declared cancer-free.

He later opened up about his diagnosis and how grateful he was to catch the aggressive cancer early, as it enabled him to later meet his first granddaughter.

“I’m so grateful I’m here to be able to see my first grandchild,” he wrote in an essay for People in 2024. “If there’s any reason to make sure you’re as healthy as possible, it’s that.”

“That little girl is just everything. I mean, I love my children, but my gosh, I didn’t know I would love another person this much.”
