Good Morning Britain’s Kate Garraway has been given a new job on the show following the channel’s ‘savage’ daytime cuts.

ITV’s budget cuts to its flagship daytime shows, including Lorraine and Loose Women were described as a ‘bloodbath’ by sources within the broadcaster in May last year when news of the channel’s new look broke.

Today, Celebrity Traitors star, Kate, 58, who is GMB’s main news presenter, also hosted the London news updates as the remaining staff at the channel settle into their new routines. Tagging a clip of the mum-of-two presenting the capital’s news, sporting a navy velour dress, one viewer wrote on X, formerly Twitter: “Edit showing Kate back at the main desk right after the London bulletin.”

Viewers were stunned when ITV announced the shock switch-up to its schedule last year. The changes, which impact ITV Studios, reportedly lead to the loss of more than 220 jobs, nearly half of the 440 staff currently working across these programmes.

The most notable changes are to Lorraine, which is now reduced from one hour to just 30 minutes and will air only 30 weeks a year, down from the current 52.

Loose Women will continue with its regular format but will be scaled back to 30 weeks per year. This Morning will remain unchanged in terms of length and frequency, while Good Morning Britain will be extended by 30 minutes, running from 6am to 9:30am.

There was a mixed response to the Scot’s new shorter show today, with some viewers musing: “What’s the point?” during its broadcast. After Lorraine had introduced what was coming up on the programme, coupled with the adverts, there wasn’t much time left for a lot of interviewing.

However, when discussing the show’s new changes, the veteran broadcaster simply said: “It’s all good” as she carried on with the show, which still has lots of loyal viewers.

GMB, meanwhile, has now been extended and kicked off with a bang today with a blistering on air row.

In a very heated exchange, presenter Susana Reid, shouted over Tory leader, Kami Badenoch, who had stopped by to discuss whether the party would ‘make a deal’ with Reform as well as how it would change Labour’s recent policies.

After asking Ms. Badenoch whether she would bring back the two-child benefit cap, Susanna then asked: “Would you keep the increase in employers’ national insurance or would you cut that?” Ms Badenoch replied with the vague comment: “So you’re asking lots of questions…”

An outraged Susanna quickly interrupted her, shouting: “Yes because the prime minister says we need to know what you would you do as an alternative!” The politician responded: “We wouldn’t have done this in the first place. What we’re asking now is how much of Labour’s mess are we going to have to clean up?”
