Joel and Hannah’s relationship with Brain Tumour Support goes back to 2020

TV presenter Joel Dommett, who is presenting The Masked Singer on Saturday (January 10), and his wife Hannah Cooper know what it’s like to need the help of a charity like Brain Tumour Support.

In February 2024, Joel teamed up with the charity for a repeat of their successful fundraisers.

Supporters of the charity got the opportunity to enter a prize draw to win Joel Dommett’s “eye-catching, bespoke” suit, tailored by acclaimed British designer Joshua Kane, and worn by the celebrity in series two of his ITV show The Masked Singer.

Dommett became a dad for the first time in 2023 and shortly afterwards made an “utterly liberating” admission about parenthood.

Joel Dommett and Hannah Cooper know what it’s like to need brain tumour support

Joel Dommett and Hannah Cooper tied the knot in 2019, but their relationship goes a couple of years further back than that.

A year or so later, around Christmas 2020, a doctor diagnosed Hannah’s mother with a brain tumour.

“You will never forget the exact time and place you were when you heard those dreaded words regarding a loved one’s diagnosis,” Hannah told Brain Tumour Support in February 2021.

“But the strength and support at any hour of the day that the charity has given both myself and my family is something we will be forever grateful for.”

At the time – Feb 2021 – Hannah’s mum was awaiting surgery. Hannah told the charity their support had been a “huge part” of her family’s journey, and a “positive and emotional support we didn’t even realise we needed”.

The nonprofit organisation’s chief executive and founder, Tina Mitchell Skinner, said the team at Brain Tumour Support were “so grateful to Joel and Hannah for everything that they are doing in raising both funds and awareness for our work.”

“It comes at a crucial time,” she added, “when we face a growing demand for support across the country due to the added pressures and anxiety that the coronavirus pandemic has caused.”

Joel himself added the following: “We know first-hand how much good every single pound raised will do in supporting individuals and families facing the shocking news of a brain tumour diagnosis.”

Hannah’s mother had to learn how to walk again after suffering a stroke

While attending the Daily Mirror Pride of Britain Awards in October 2024, Hannah updated the paper on her mother’s health struggles.

“My mum actually discovered she had a brain tumour and, as a result, had a stroke and had to learn to walk and talk again.”

“She is my biggest inspiration – going through that during the pandemic … it changed everything. So I just, I definitely view everything very differently these days, and it’s amazing. I think you just sometimes need a new perspective.”

Davina McCall, another of the nation’s favourite TV presenters, also suffered a brain tumour.
