One of life’s mysteries in a TV addict’s life is who really sits on the other side of the phone on Deal or No Deal. Host Stephen Mulhern chats and laughs away with the mysterious voice known only as ‘The Banker’ as he makes tempting offers to the players – but is it even a real person at all?

Taking to Twitter, one fan asked the ITV host directly. They penned: “Been watching Deal or No Deal (and love you!) but have always wanted to know/ask and I’m sure you’ve answered this a thousand times – but is there actually someone on the end of the phone? And if so, is it a genuine banker or someone on production?” Stephen re-tweeted the message as he cleared things up, adding: “Hello, it is the actual banker. It’s not a producer on the end of the phone.” However, he confessed that he has never actually met the mystery man. “I’ve been told he does the show and leaves and I have never met him,” he continued. “I don’t even know if he’s in the same building!”

Other fans chimed in, sharing their guesses for who it could be. One said: “Yeah but it’s obviously someone that works for ITV. It’s not gonna be the manager of Lloyd’s on the phone.”

While another joked: “It’s got to be Ant or Dec,” and a third quipped: “I’ve heard it’s Rachel Reeves.”

Many other fans were baffled as to how the voice of the mysterious Banker is never heard in the studio. One wrote: “How come their voice doesn’t get picked up on your mic? Genuine question.”

The series previously aired on Channel 4 and was fronted by Edmonds, who presented the hit game show for a decade before it was scrapped.

While many things have changed on the show, the tense phone calls between the host and the Banker still remain.

He is also believed to have continued his role for one year after ITV rebooted the show with Stephen Mulhern at the helm.
