After Tea-Bag was eliminated for his performance of Deep Blue Something’s Breakfast at Tiffany’s, it was revealed that the person behind the mask was none other than Professor Green.
Professor Green, known for tracks Just Be Good To Green, I Need You Tonight and Read All About It, grinned as the crowd and judges went wild.
He had attempted to cover up his voice by speaking with a posh accent, and dropping hints that had connections to royalty.
Maya Jama guessed ‘Judge’ Rob Rinder, Mo Gilligan thought it was Richard Osman, Davina thought it was Dan Snow and Jonathan guessed it to be Mike Tindall.
After being revealed as Emperor Penguin as tonight’s Lead Singer guest star, Matt Lucas thought it was Stephen Merchant.
Talking to Joel Dommett after his reveal, he said: “It was nice to be able to hide behind a mask and just be silly for a minute.”
Though he quickly joking that faking a posh accent ‘didn’t make singing any easier’.
He also said that his four-and-a-half year old son is a fan of the show and had no idea he would be on it.
“It’s been so much fun, and I’m really happy that none of you guessed me,” he added.
“He was actually my pal, so I should know!” admitted Maya, who noted she’d spoken to him days before filming.
Speaking after his unmasking, Professor Green shared his surprise that none of the judges figured out who he was.
“Do you know what, I know four of the panel over the last fifteen years,” he said. “I’ve seen all of them multiple times, and quite regularly at times, and none of them were anywhere near [guessing it was me].
“I was laughing behind the mask. I just thought surely one of them is going to get it. But no-one guessed.
“I got a judge, a rugby player, Sir Trevor McDonald but I think that was because of the clock, they thought The Ten O’clock News.”
Sunday’s episode also saw Arctic Fox take to the stage for Pink’s Get This Party Started, Yak sang Tom Jones’ Sex Bomb and Toastie rocked out to Aerosmith’s Walk This Way.
Conker performed Myles Smith’s Nice to Meet You, while Monkey Business ended the show with her rendition of Man Eater.
They have all made it through to the next episode to fight for their spot as this year’s winner – with next week being Sports Themed.
Pro Green’s reveal marks the third major star to appear on this year’s series, with Disk Jockey being eliminated on Saturday night’s show.
Goldfish, the special ‘lead singer’ of the first episode, was revealed to be singer Anne-Marie, and while not part of the competition, later joined the panel to uncover the identity of Disk Jockey.
The robotic character was then revealed to be BBC’s The One Show’s Alex Jones as she was knocked out of the show.
The Masked Singer continues next Saturday at 7pm on ITV1 and ITVX.
