BBC Breakfast took an emotional turn on Sunday morning

BBC Breakfast’s sports presenter Olly Foster announced some sad news on Sunday’s show. After Ben Thompson and Rachel Burden handed over to Olly, who delivered the latest sporting news, he paid tribute to two sporting legends.

He began, “Now, for just a couple of hours, Manchester City were top yesterday. That’s the first time they’ve been there since the opening day of the season. They won two-one at Nottingham Forest in the lunchtime kick-off.

“Ahead of kick off, tributes were paid to the Forest club legend John Robertson, their two-time European Cup winner, who died on Christmas Day.”

Olly added, “That makes it eight wins in a row in all competitions.”

The BBC star then went on to report on Liverpool’s match against Wolves at Anfield, which marked the first time the teams met since the death of Diogo Jota.

He went on, “So there was an emotional afternoon at Anfield as Liverpool and Wolves met for the first time since the death of Diogo Jota in the summer.

“Jota played for both clubs during his eight years in England. His sons were mascots for the game. They came out onto the pitch with the local captain.

“Jota was 28 when he was killed in a car crash in Spain in July, alongside his brother Andre Silva, and Liverpool went on to win the match.”

It was also an emotional show on Saturday’s BBC Breakfast as Charlie Stayt and Emma Vardy delivered the latest news headlines.

The presenters opened the show with some devastating news after two swimmers went missing in an East Devon Christmas Day swim.

Charlie began, “Good morning, Saturday, the 27th of December. Our main story today is that tributes are being paid to one of the two men who are missing off the East Devon coast, with his family saying he was deeply loved and will be forever missed.”

“Police have called off the search for 63-year-old Matthew Upham and another man in his 40s who were among a number of people who got into difficulty in the sea during a Christmas Day swim in Budleigh Salterton,” Emma added.
