Today host Craig Melvin was forced to get a rather unfortunate tattoo this week after losing a bet to his cohost Savannah Guthrie.
The 45-year-old anchor – who recently returned to the NBC show after a leave of absence – wagered with Savannah back in January that the Washington Commanders would beat the Philadelphia Eagles to get to the Super Bowl. Obviously, he lost that bet as the Eagles ended up making to to the big game and beat the Kansas City Chiefs on February 9.
Rather than bet with money, Craig and Savannah, 53, agreed that whoever lost would have to get a temporary tattoo of the other’s face – and the father-of-two was more than happy to hold up his end of the deal.
Live on air, Craig allowed his cohost Carson Daly to apply the temporary inking of Savannah wearing a Philadelphia Eagles hat.

“My 10-year-old daughter wore one of these fake tattoos and we couldn’t get it off for six months,” Carson, 51, joked as he applied the tattoo to the back of Craig’s neck, before adding: “So, if this doesn’t come off easily, don’t worry!”
Craig told Carson: “You’re a bit of a tattoo expert so I trust you,” before telling viewers at home: “Let this be a lesson…”
“I haven’t even seen the picture!” Craig admitted as his cohost Al Roker joked: “That’s funny, the picture of Savannah, she has her finger up!”

“Oh my God, it looks so good Craig! Congratulations!” Savannah said once the tattoo had been applied, as Craig replied: “I wish I could see it!” before telling viewers at home: “Let this be a lesson, don’t gamble!”
When the duo first made the bet back in January, Today viewers got to help decide what the loser would have to endure – with the options being; the tattoo, drinking from a shoe, or wearing a sign on the New York City subway that said: “Ask me about the bet I lost.”
Craig recently returned from a break from the show, as he wanted to spend time with his family for Easter. In his place, NBC sports commentator Mike Tirico joined Savannah for several episodes last week.
