FANS of The Traitors are scrabbling to work out the identity of the sinister red-cloaked figure in the show’s latest twist.

Viewers faced a cliffhanger as the Secret Traitor was on the verge of being unmasked.

Existing “villains” Rachel and Stephen “won back power” on Saturday by picking nine potential victims on a family tree of contestants and waited to meet the super-baddie.

It is the latest masterstroke from the BBC One hit fronted by Claudia Winkleman.

But fans must now wait until Wednesday to find out who the mysterious character is.

Millions reckon they have already spotted enough clues to suss out the Secret Traitor before the big reveal.

The shadowy figure wrote a murder list for the regular Traitors, from which they had to select victims, but their identity was only known to Claudia.

One clue comes from executive producer Mike Cotton, who revealed the Secret Traitor is not lying in any of their confessionals.

Another is that the super-villain is right-handed — and we have a sample of their handwriting.

Fans have also spotted that when Claudia tapped on their shoulder, the background was dark, which appears to rule out contestants James, Amanda and Jack.

But former Traitors favourites have also been on the case, including Harry Clark and Charlotte Berman, plus Celebrity Traitor Cat Burns.

Series two champ Harry said: “The twist is just getting better and better, more confusing, because I can’t work out who the ultimate Traitor is.

“My mind keeps shifting.

“If I was the ultimate Traitor, the first move is get rid of all the middle Traitors, because the new Traitors that come into that turret won’t know who has been put forward on the murder list.”

Singer Cat said: “I would have just surrendered to the fact that I didn’t know who it is, then each day you get the shortlist.

“I’d note down who the people are, then if I lived to see the day when I was far enough in, I’d whittle it down.

“I wouldn’t be stressed thinking I need to find out. That is what Rachel is doing.”

Last series’ recruited Traitor Charlotte said: “I’m really jealous because I want to go back and be a Secret Traitor. That red cloak — unbelievable.

“But I could see the Traitors at the end being brand new ones.

“You really are just Team You — you can only really look out for yourself.”

Here, we look at the prime suspects who could be hiding under the sinister red shroud.

The Traitors continues on Wednesday at 8pm on BBC One.

Already a major player due to her link with mum Judy, who was the first person to be banished from this year’s series.

But it was when Judy was sent packing that things took a turn.

Harry said: “Why was she so defensive over Judy being banished?”

Roxy would be extra angry if she knew for sure her mum was a Faithful, which the Secret Traitor does.

Judy said on Uncloaked: “Roxy gave me a look, and I thought, ‘She must be a Traitor’.”

Her handwriting is also the best fit of the lot when the letters on the murder list and voting chalkboard, above, are compared, especially the “e” going into the “s” in James.

Harriet, 52

Crime writer and former barrister, lives in London.

Harriet’s takedown of Traitor Hugo was so exacting, yet seemingly only based on his theatrical behaviour over Ben’s murder.

It makes her fans’ No1 pick for Secret Traitor as they believe she must have known his ID.

Meanwhile, on spin-off show Uncloaked, Harriet’s portrait was hung on the wall next to Traitors Stephen and Rachel.

No other frames were present.

She has also played The Traitors before, at the live experience.

Scenes keep showing a book called Who’s Who 1934, and the author is a former barrister, just like Harriet.

Her handwriting does look similar to that on the murder list.

And she refers to herself as the “secret barrister” a lot.

Ellie, 33

Psychologist, lives in London.

All eyes are on Ellie as fans are convinced she is in a secret relationship with fellow player Ross.

But Cat said: “Because she’s a psychologist, I thought that would be amazing to be puppeteering everyone.”

Ellie said the words “Secret Traitor” to Ross in a conversation, and her writing on the blackboard in the round- table voting is another good match for the murder list.

Some viewers think you can spot blonde hair, like Ellie’s, under the red cloak.

Others reckon there is a green glow in Claudia’s glossy hair when she selects the Secret Traitor – the colour Ellie and Harriet were wearing.

Most fans’ money is on Amanda, with Harry saying: “She would be a great ultimate Traitor, as a police detective.

“In episode one, she did also say that she had a Jekyll and Hyde side to her.”

Her comments that, “Rachel is in my inner circle”, and, “My current strategy is to exude being a Faithful”, have aroused suspicion among viewers.

Also, the Who’s Who 1934 book may be code, with 1,9,3,4 referencing the corresponding letters of the alphabet, A, I, C, D.

Is that an anagram of DCI A (Amanda) in a nod to her being a cop?

Meanwhile, she said James “had a tough night” when she shouldn’t have known he was on the murder list, and told Stephen, “I don’t have the weight of being a Traitor on my shoulders,” suggesting she knows he does.

Jade, 25

PhD student, lives in West Midlands.

Jade has come under fire for looking nervous, but Cat Burns reckons she would be a good Secret Traitor, saying: “I think she’s a queen and really fab. I think she’d be great at it.”

Jade’s handwriting is another close match for the murder list.

Furthermore, fans counted the timing of Claudia’s round-table walk and believe it stopped at Jade.

She did not declare she wanted to be a Faithful in her entry interview, but in the edit, she was the only one seen telling Claudia she didn’t want to be a Traitor.
