The Strictly Come Dancing finalist made the confession on Wednesday’s It Takes Two

Strictly Come Dancing star Karen Carney has revealed the item that she “stole” from the BBC show.

On Wednesday (December 17), Janette Manrara made her return to the spin-off programme, It Takes Two, as anticipation builds for this weekend’s live final.

During the show, she was joined by the former England Lioness and her professional partner Carlos Gu to chat about their preparation, with just days remaining until the finale.

The footballer disclosed that they’ll be reprising their opening week routine, alongside their Argentine Tango from Halloween Week, which was themed around Peaky Blinders. However, the 38-year-old sporting star found herself having to own up to a blunder during the live broadcast as she looked back on that particular performance, reports the Express.

When Janette enquired about her feelings regarding dancing the Argentine Tango once more, Karen beamed: “I was so happy [the judges asked to see the Argentine Tango again] because it was such a turning point for me on the show.

“I think for four weeks I’d been stuck, and I wasn’t really progressing. And then I put that hat on [and it all changed].”

Expressing her admiration for the period drama, she continued: “It’s my favourite show, The Peaky Blinders. I went in on that Monday, and I was like, ‘I’m not letting my city down. It’s a nod to Birmingham, and there’s no way I’m letting the city down.’”

Karen then confessed to taking the iconic flat cap from the costume department as a memento, never imagining that she would need it again in the final stages of the competition.

“But after that, I’m not going to lie, I nicked the hat because I never thought I’d get to this point where I’d do it again, so I’ve got to try and find the hat again,” she revealed.

The football star tried to put the wardrobe team’s minds at ease, laughing as she said: “I’ve got the hat, Vicky [Gill, costume designer], don’t worry.

“I’ve got it, so I’ll have to bring it in, but yeah, I didn’t think we’d get to do it again, so it means a lot to be back doing it again. I’m a proud Birmingham girl, and it’s my favourite show, with my partner in crime, so we’re really just going to enjoy it.”

Karen faces tough competition as she vies for the coveted Glitterball Trophy alongside West End performer Amber Davies and content creator George Clarke.
