The quote came from Times TV critic James Poniewozik, who recently wrote about the influence of Fox & Friends — former President Donald Trmp’s favorite morning show. Soon after, Trmp tweeted the quote himself, underlining his ongoing support.
The ad appeared only days after a heated back-and-forth between Fox & Friends and The New York Times. The newspaper had demanded an apology from the show for what it called a “malicious and inaccurate” weekend segment questioning the patriotism of Times journalists. Fox & Friends declined to apologize, and both sides continued trading statements in the media.
Still, Thursday’s broadcast had a lighter tone. The hosts repeatedly mentioned the ad, and Steve Doocy didn’t hide his pride: “They called us the most powerful TV show in America — and for that, we agree!”
In his article, Poniewozik described Fox & Friends as a show that offers encouragement and advice, almost like children’s TV that makes viewers feel seen. “Except for Mr. Trmp,” he wrote, “it’s real.” Thanks to the former president’s loyalty, the critic called the show “the most powerful TV show in America.”
Co-host Brian Kilmeade felt the Times should have highlighted something else: the show’s consistent top ratings across three presidencies. “Why don’t they write about that?” he asked.
A weekday, full-page, color ad in the Times can cost around $150,000, though the newspaper didn’t confirm the exact price.
At 67, Steve Doocy keeps his humor and passion for TV alive. When reminded that the show had been called “most powerful,” he smiled and said, “We agree, because it’s true.” Despite past controversies, Fox & Friends still holds a special place with American viewers — especially when praise comes from an unexpected source.
