Jon Stewart has revealed he is uncertain about his future on The Daily Show after CBS decided to cancel The Late Show with Stephen Colbert.
The program will be coming to an end in May 2026, with the news being announced in a statement shared by CBS, which is owned by Paramount Global. Jon currently hosts The Daily Show on Comedy Central, which is also owned by Paramount, and admitted he hasn’t heard anything yet.
“Unfortunately, we haven’t heard anything from them. They haven’t called me and said like, ‘Don’t get too comfortable in that office, Stewart!’” he admitted on his The Weekly Show podcast.
He then added, “I’ve been kicked out of s——r establishments than that. We’ll land on our feet.”
However, Jon admitted he is uncertain about what the future holds for The Daily Show.
Jon explained to listeners, “I’d like to believe that… Like, without The Daily Show, Comedy Central is kind of like muzak at this point. I think we’re the only sort of life that exists on a current basis other than South Park.”
He said he hopes his show brings “enough value” to Comedy Central to avoid also being canceled, but admitted “that may not be their consideration.”
Fans are also worried about the future of Jon’s show, with one person posting on X, “CBS canceling The Late Show with Stephen Colbert was political. The Daily Show with Jon Stewart is prob next. Paramount and David Ellison suck.”
Someone else took action, “Finally cancelled the dumb Paramount +. I’m 99% sure they’re gonna cancel The Daily Show w/Jon Stewart next.”
A third fan replied, “Just did the same,” as they also canceled their Paramount subscription.
“The Daily Show won’t survive,” someone else predicted, as a fifth person suggested, “The Daily Show is a popular show, so it could get picked up by another network. Wasn’t Bill Maher’s show, Politically Incorrect, cancelled by ABC years ago, and he started another show on HBO?”
CBS issued a statement to announce the end of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert. It read, “‘THE LATE SHOW with STEPHEN COLBERT’ will end its historic run in May 2026 at the end of the broadcast season. We consider Stephen Colbert irreplaceable and will retire the ‘THE LATE SHOW’ franchise at that time. We are proud that Stephen called CBS home. He and the broadcast will be remembered in the pantheon of greats that graced late-night television.”
The statement continued, “This is purely a financial decision against a challenging backdrop in late night. It is not related in any way to the show’s performance, content or other matters happening at Paramount.”
