BBC Breakfast saw one guest break down in tears on Monday’s show as they shared some sad news.
During the latest episode, hosted by Jon Kay and Emma Vardy, the two presenters announced a new change to the show with a new segment called Rise & Shine.
Rise & Shine, which will air one day a week, aims to celebrate the positive work of individuals and groups right across the UK.
During Monday’s segment, BBC Breakfast highlighted the work of litter picking group Crosby Wombles as BBC Breakfast presenter Jayne McCubbin caught up with the group.
After hearing from a few people in the group and how the Crosby Wombles have helped them, Jayne explained: “For magic like this to happen, there has to be a person who pulls it all together, and that person is Dawn.”

Celebrating Dawn, Jayne announced to the group: “Doesn’t she do a brilliant job?” (Image: BBC)
The presenter added: “When Dawn helped set this group up back in 2022, she had a lovely husband by her side” with Jayne saying he was called Adrian.
In a tragic and sad update, Jayne said: “Last summer, he unexpectedly died and Dawn unexpectedly came to rely on this little litter-picking group in ways she’d never imagined.”
After showing a picture of her late husband, Dawn, who was emotional, said: “This community has been so supportive, incredibly supportive. There’s many stories shared in a safe environment, and people go away better for sharing.”
Jayne then applauded Dawn, saying: “Well done, you. Well done. You would have been lost without the work you’re doing” to which Dawn, who broke down in tears, admitted: “Completely!”

Dawn added: “As Jo’s just said to me now, Adrian would be so proud, and I really do feel that.”
Celebrating Dawn, Jayne announced to the group: “Doesn’t she do a brilliant job?” to which Dawn was left in tears over the celebration especially as everyone started clapping.
Jayne continued: “From litter to love and life-affirming friendships which make a place truly home.”
Ending the segment, Jayne said: “Doesn’t she make a difference? These are the kinds of stories we would love to champion on Breakfast in 2026, please do get in touch” to which a tearful and overwhelmed Dawn walked away over all the praise.
Back in the studio, host Emma said: “Oh, so nice. We need a bit of this in the middle of our news bulletins, don’t we?”
BBC Breakfast continues everyday at 6am on BBC One and BBC iPlayer.
