The Traitors roundtable

The players were left gutted after 16 of them voted the same way – and were all wrong

The first player on The Traitors has been banished after a landslide vote and admitted it had been “hard” to go out knowing they didn’t deserve it.

Child liaison officer Judy notched up a staggering 16 votes from her fellow contestants in the greatest display of herd mentality yet seen on The Traitors. She was bravely defended at the roundtable by her (secret) daughter Roxy, who rightly refused to believe her mother was a Traitor, and by (secret) former top cop Amanda, who was similarly certain that Judy was a Faithful.

But after being banished at the roundtable, Judy, 60, declared that she wouldn’t change a thing, despite getting her vast haul of votes. Asked if she’d do anything differently after leaving the castle, she replied: “I don’t think so, but I would have loved to have stayed longer. I didn’t have a strategy. I just thought there’s no point in changing myself. I’m just going to play the game the best I can play it and enjoy it and have some fun, and that’s what I did.”

Poor Judy didn’t deserve her harsh treatment on the show, with the charge against her led by Sam

Judy said that she is now backing her daughter, Roxy, 32, to win. “I’m willing her on, and I know she’s got it in her to go all the way.” She said it felt tough knowing she was the first to be banished. “It’s hard, but I enjoyed exactly what I did; I was there playing the game the best I could. Unfortunately, it wasn’t good enough. I knew I was going down, but I went down gracefully.”

Judy said her highlight was when Sam was telling everyone he was convinced she was a Traitor, and she told him she was ready for him during a discussion in the castle kitchen. “I think for me it was when I knew Sam was coming for me – my back went up as usual, and I just thought, ‘oh no, I’m not having it’, so obviously I had to come for this person, which I did.”

Despite her short time in the castle, she insisted: “I’ve had an amazing time, the friendships that we’ve built up are incredible – I’ve loved every minute of it.”

Most of the group looked horrified after getting it so wrong at the roundtable. Host Claudia Winkleman told them: “You banished an innocent Faithful; she was just being herself. What a striking win for the Traitors.”

Roxy was furious to see her Mum cast out, saying that if Sam is a Faithful, he’s “done the Traitors a favour tonight” and adding: “Mum’s game might be over, it was cut short, but mine is just starting and it’s going to spur me on.”

Netty was gutted to be the first murder victim

Judy’s departure came after Netty became the show’s first murder victim. The 42-year-old single mum admitted she’d have done better if she’d piped down and followed her own game plan. “Originally, I said I’ll observe and see what’s going on, but I absolutely did not stick to it,” she sighed, speaking after her departure.

“I was like ‘what do you think?’ to everyone and ‘this is what I think’. That’s what I felt like I needed to do. If I knew what was coming, I probably would have stayed a little bit quieter. But I don’t know if that would have stopped me being on that short list of names anyway,” she reasoned.

Netty described her early departure as being “bittersweet”. “I didn’t have the time that I had hoped to have, but I think I’ve had the time I was meant to have,” she decided. “I’ve had the experience that it should have been for me.”
