Michael Strahan turned heads on Thursday’s ‘Good Morning America’ when he opted out of a lighthearted chat about first jobs with his fellow presenters – and it certainly caught the attention of viewers.
This comes amid news that he’s keen on acquiring a minority ownership in the New York Giants. Anchor Rebecca initiated the discussion by prompting the team to reminisce about their early job experiences.
Ginger and Rebecca offered up charming stories until Robin threw in a curveball: “Michael, your first job wasn’t like ours.”
She nudged him to acknowledge that his first professional outing was on the gridiron – playing defensive end for the Giants, at a time when the current New York squad is embroiled in a heated quarterback contest.
Caught slightly off guard, Strahan chuckled and explained: “That’s why I didn’t join in the conversation.”
Whit seized the opportunity to tease, asking: “Did you have to fill out an application for that?”
Strahan responded with a chuckle: “It all worked out.”
His laughter diffused any awkwardness, yet the moment was notably memorable.
Strahan’s illustrious 15-year NFL career, which included a Super Bowl XLII win, established him as one of the sport’s legends before he hung up his cleats in 2007. He has since become a television sensation, co-hosting ‘Live! with Kelly and Michael’ and becoming a full-time member of the ‘Good Morning America’ team in 2016.
Throughout the years, Strahan has offered honest insights into his past. Beneath the tough exterior lies a tale of hardship: he’s confessed that high school was like fighting a daily war – “surviving every day,” with little socializing and an intense focus on football.
His determination earned him a scholarship to Texas Southern University, which paved the way for his outstanding professional career. Even with his ease on camera, Strahan’s brief hesitation during Thursday’s show suggested underlying tension.
Is he open to talking about changing careers or leaving GMA? He hasn’t dropped any hints yet.
There’s no indication that he’s planning to leave; rather, it’s rumored he’s close to signing a new contract with GMA that might reduce his workload, finding a middle ground between his morning show duties and his continued presence on FOX NFL Sunday.
Since his arrival in 2016, Strahan has been instrumental in keeping ‘Good Morning America’ neck and neck with NBC’s ‘Today,’ even as his former ‘Live!’ colleague Kelly Ripa returns to the same Hudson Square location, fueling speculation of potentially uncomfortable encounters.
