Prince Harry may ask his father to visit him in California when King Charles pays President Trump a visit, but Chris Riches suggests this could be a bad idea.

King Charles spent 2025 watching the Royal Family besmirched by sordid links to his clown-like, shamed brother – so the last thing His Majesty now needs are tickets to Prince Harry’s US media circus. But that’s exactly the ambush the king could stumble into if reports are true that Harry’s “desperately” urging him to visit his home in California to see his two youngest grandchildren.

The King, 77, and Prince William, 43, were supposedly already set to travel to the US in April to revitalise a key trade deal put on “pause” by President Donald Trump. But sources close to the Duke of Sussex have hinted that Harry is hoping his father will schedule time to visit Prince Archie, 6, and Princess Lilibet, 4, at their Montecito mansion.

The King last saw his two youngest grandchildren in June 2022, during the Sussexes’ trip to the UK for the late Queen Elizabeth II’s Platinum Jubilee.

Since then the Sussexes have avoided the UK as a family-of-four, as a result of Harry’s public safety fears after losing his right to police protection since stepping down as working royals to pursue their desire to make mounds of cash.

A source has said: “Harry has made it clear that he would love his dad to come and visit him and the family. He knows that they are strained, but he has mentioned several times a hope that his father can have a relationship with his grandchildren.”

So this could be a unique opportunity for William and King Charles to both meet the Sussexes ‘in an away fixture’ on foreign soil and bury the hatchet for good

But what some royal watchers and Harry’s US celebrity pals may see as a healing moment between a family riven by distrust could end up a disaster.

And the reason? Because for a couple whose TV streaming income is solely dependent on monetising their life’s drama, there’s no way this won’t become a global media circus.

Look at the beans Harry so artfully spilled about his family, brother and father either on the Oprah Winfrey show or in his autobiography Spare.

How is King Charles supposed to feel about Harry branding Queen Camilla a “wicked stepmother” and “dangerous” who “left bodies in the street” at the expense of others.

While how would William feel knowing Harry made a reported £22m in book sales partly by also piling in on his wife Catherine – by accusing her of making Meghan cry over flower girl dresses.

Harry also shifted part of the blame for his notorious Nazi fancy dress costume on Catherine and William, dragging them into a decision that was ultimately his – unless he now claims they forced the clothes onto his body.

On her ailing Netflix show With Love, Meghan, she ‘treats’ viewers to enthralling scenes of her in her kitchen making focaccia bread and gumbo.

So don’t tell me that if King Charles and Prince William turn up with flowers, chocs and a cake it won’t become a Netflix exclusive quicker than you can say “show me the money!”

The King and William have spent their lives putting their country and the unique role of the monarchy before themselves – but the physical and emotional rift with Harry will be wounding them.

Yet becoming a pay-per-view streaming special – or modern day Jeremy Kyle ‘family at war’ episode – is no way to heal it.
