Panicking Dani Dyer gasps for air as she cuts nightmarish Celebrity SAS challenge short after being trapped underwater – and is branded a ‘catastrophic failure’
Dani Dyer gasped for air as she cut a Celebrity SAS challenge short after being trapped underwater during a deep water dive on Sunday’s episode.
The former Love Island star, 29, is one of the 14 famous faces taking part in this year’s series of the Channel 4 show.
The eighth series will see celebrities from the US and UK take on a number of terrifying tasks led by chief instructor Billy Billingam, Jason Fox, Rudy Reyes and Chris Oliver.
Sunday’s instalment saw them take on an emergency evactuation drill in a life threatening situation as they were lowered from 260ft.
In pairs, they were harnessed into a planes fuselage and submerged fully underwater, told to hold their breath and then had to exit from the rear door to pass.
One person that really struggled with it was Dani, who attempted the task with Neighbours actor Ryan Moloney, 46.

Before heading down, Billy asked Dani: ‘Are you alright?’
‘No, I’m petrified,’ Dani replied.
Sitting in the plane, a panicked Dani confessed: ‘I really want to cry but I don’t want to cry.’
She added: ‘I’m really scared.’
Ryan fumed: ‘F***ing concentrate and switch on. Focus on what you’re doing, we are strong and we are calm. We’re going to take a deep breath and we’re going to be fine.’
Just before taking her breath, Dani confessed: ‘I’m really scared.’
Dani didn’t last long before she escaped the situation.
‘I’m so sorry,’ Dani told Ryan.
Billy fumed: ‘Catastrophic fail!’
It comes after fans blasted one of this year’s recruits as ‘extremely annoying’ and have predicted he’ll have a major clash with one of his fellow stars after causing tension in the very first episode.
The UK team is made up of Love Island stars Dani Dyer and Gabby Allen, social media influencers Jack Joseph and Cole Anderson James, rugby player Ben Cohen, Gladiators star Toby Olubi, and cricketer Graeme Swann.
And team Australia are Olympic swimmer Mack Horton, MAFS Australia star Jessika Power, singer Natalie Bassingthwaighte, former cricketer Brad Hodge, swimmer Emily Seebohm, actor Axle Whitehead and Neighbours star Ryan Moloney.
But while the group appeared to be bonding well initially and leaning on each other for support at the start of the episode, it didn’t take long from cracks to start to show.

But while the group appeared to be bonding well initially and leaning on each other for support at the start of the episode, it didn’t take long from cracks to start to show
However, rather than there be a divide between the Brits and the Aussies, it was the behaviour of Ryan that caused the friction, after he began issuing orders to his fellow recruits – rubbing some of them the wrong way.
The actor, best known for his role as Toadfish/Toadie in Aussie soap Neighbours, took on a leadership role in the camp immediately, ordering the others on to fill their water bottles and when to be ready.
Things came to a head at the end of the episode, after the Directing Staff checked the camp’s water bottles and punished the group upon discovering that some of them hadn’t filled theirs to the brim.
The recruits were all put through exercises, that including having to jump into a tank of cold water, as a reminder to always be ready and not cut corners.
But returning to camp, Ryan angrily confronted his fellow celebrities for not listening to his instructions, launching into an expletive-laden telling-off.
He shouted: ‘Fill up your f***ing water bottles first! Use your cups to drink in here so you’ve always got a full f***ing bottle’.
Annoyed at the dismissal, Toby muttered: ‘He runs this place apparently’, as Gabby echoed: ‘Feel like he’s another DS, don’t you?’
Turning to Ryan, she asked: ‘What’s your name again?’ angering the soap star even further, as he shot back: ‘My name is f**ing pissed off!

‘Because now I’ve got two f**ing sets of wet clothes because people haven’t f***ng filled up their water bottle when all day I’ve said to do it. So yeah I’m pissed! I know I’m not a f**ing DS, but I’m one of your teammates.’
His outburst left an awkward tension amongst the group, while Gabby didn’t hide her irritation as she sarcastically muttered: ‘Nice way to talk to everyone isn’t it?’
Viewers watching the scenes took to social media to react to Ryan’s rant, with many suggesting that his mental health was already under a lot of strain and predicting he would end up ‘winding the other contestants the wrong way’.
They tweeted: ‘Toady gonna become annoying pretty quickly’; ‘Ryan is seriously p***ing me off – who the hell does he think he is!’; ‘Toady, the water bottle police’.
‘Ryan has more issues with water than Severn Trent’; ‘I was rooting for Toadie but no longer as he has appointed himself de facto leader and no one likes a bossy t**t’.
”Toadie’s gonna get killed by his own team..’; ‘Ryan is heading for a breakdown, something not right there’; ‘Poor Toadfish – the guy seems absolutely wired.’
‘Don’t think the way no.12 is conducting himself on @SAS_WDW will stand him in good stead, he does have good intentions but he’ll piss the rest of them off and they’ll soon turn on him’
‘Toadstool: Textbook example of how not to win friends and influence people’; ‘I’m glad there’s a loon like Ryan involved. Haven’t seen that in previous series. Be good to see how everyone reacts’.

‘Ryan’s trying to establish himself as an alpha…’; ‘Who died and put Ryan in charge’; ‘Mate he wants to be staff’; ‘Ryan is like the RAC mechanic.. he’s heading for a breakdown’.
‘Toadfish too busy trying to be the big man, obsessed with other people’s water bottles. He’s winding other contestants the wrong way.’
Ryan’s actions drew the attention of the Directing Staff, who admitted they were ‘concerned’ over his character, and chose him as the first recruit to be pulled into the interrogation room.
Inside, he emotionally opened up about battling with undiagnosed ADHD for years, admitting: ‘Once I got that diagnosis, that’s the best f***ing news I’ve ever heard because now I understand why my brain does what it does, now I get why I see things very differently.’
And speaking to Yahoo UK this week, he reflected on how his ADHD could’ve been a factor in his frustration with the group over not being organised enough.
He told the publication: ‘I wanted everyone to be able to do their best and to be able to stick around for as long as they can.
‘As soon as we f*** up and don’t do something right, then we get drilled. That’s when people quit. So it was wanting people to be able to stay there for as long as they could, taking it for the team in a way.
‘I live by the mantra of if not you, then who and if not now, then when. I had to speak up and say, hey guys, we should be doing this, we should be doing that. And if people crack the s***s because of that, well, then okay, cool.

‘I’ve probably got a bit frustrated because I felt like a lot of the time that I was on everyone’s team but it didn’t feel like there was a lot of people on mine.’
He went on: ‘I spoke with the psychologist afterward, and he was like, “It’s designed to get you into fight or flight straight away, and clearly, you were already in that mode before you even turned up”.
‘What I was experiencing was actually uncontrollable waves of emotion, that I had no idea what the hell they were even about.’
Another memorable moment came just 10 minutes into the debut episode, when one contestant wet himself after being ignored by Billy and his team.
Olympic swimmer Mack Horton was left red-faced when he let his bladder go in front of his fellow celebrities and the instructors, before the first challenge had even begun.
The Australian star, 29, opened up on the ‘outrageous’ moment to Daily Mail last week, explaining that it wasn’t due to his nerves.
He insisted: ‘I was just busting to be honest. When we were up on the dam…

‘I put my hand up because I had to go to the bathroom and no one came, and I was like, whatever. Who cares at this point?’
Holding back the laughter, his co-star Toby Olubi pointed out: ‘That was 10 minutes in though’ as Mack defended: ‘I was busting.’
The Gladiators star continued: ‘None of us realised because obviously there was something far greater in front of us. But I just remember you telling us that happened but none of us realised whatsoever.’
‘It was huge as well. It went on for like a minute and a half. It was outrageous,’ Mack giggled.
