It was supposed to be the happiest night of their lives—a wedding at the elegant Sky Meadow Country Club in Nashua, New Hampshire, with loved ones gathered, the dance floor glimmering, and the bride and groom seconds away from their first dance. But as laughter echoed and glasses clinked, a masked gvnman burst into the reception, shattering the celebration with chilling screams of “Free Palestine!” and “the children are safe”—words that will haunt everyone who was there.

Witnesses describe a scene of utter chaos. “Getting together for a dance for the bride and groom and then all hell broke loose,” said Tom Bartelson, the groom’s uncle. “We heard about six shots and everybody ducked for cover. Next thing you know, we’re rushed into safe spots.” The gunman, later identified by police as Hunter Nadeau, 23, flipped off guests before opening fire. Within seconds, Robert Steven DeCesare, 59, lay mortally wounded—his family separated in the frantic scramble to safety.

Police poured onto the scene, blocking roads and searching for what was initially believed to be two sh00ters. The panic spread beyond the club, with ambulances lining up outside a nearby hotel transformed into a reunification center for desperate families. But as the night wore on, authorities confirmed that Nadeau was the sole suspect, captured swiftly thanks to video surveillance and the rapid response of Nashua officers.

In the aftermath, confusion and heartbreak reigned. Evie O’Rourke, DeCesare’s mother, described the terror of not knowing whether her son was alive. “My daughter-in-law and granddaughter escaped … They saw my son go down and they saw blood, and we can’t find him.” For hours, families clung to hope, searching for loved ones as police pieced together what had happened.

Social media lit up with shock and sorrow. “How can this happen at a wedding?” one user posted on X, echoing the disbelief rippling across the community. Another wrote, “We’re living in a nightmare. Praying for everyone involved.” Many commended the Nashua PD for their swift action, but others questioned how such violence could erupt in a place meant for joy.

Mayor Jim Donchess tried to reassure the shaken city, offering condolences and gratitude to the police. “Our hearts go out to the families of those killed or injured. Thank you Nashua PD for quick work in catching the ‘person of interest.’ This truly can happen anywhere,” he wrote on Facebook, the words resonating as a grim reminder of how fragile safety can be.
