American Eagle ran a series of ads with the bombshell model and actress Sydney Sweeney, with the ads using the joking slogan “Syndey Sweeney has great jeans.” As could be expected, the ads featuring the beautiful, blonde model and her “jeans” were beloved by part of the internet, but stirred up a furor on the left, which claimed they were all sorts of awful things. That, in turn, led to American Eagle issuing a statement in which it refused to back down.

For reference, the series of ads featured the busty actress in a variety of revealing outfits, most of which consisted near-entirely of American Eagle denim. Sweeney, in the ads, would make a clever remark about jeans or the like while seductively showing off her figure and the jeans themselves.

That is all the ads were, and they sparked vociferous criticism from the left. Many commenters online said things like, “I didn’t know what everyone was freaking out about with that Sydney Sweeney ad but then I realised I should watch it with the sound on and OH MY GOD. Yeah that’s some f*cked Aryan eugenics sh*t.”

Similarly, another angry leftist attacked the ad as “racist” and said, “This is what happens when you have no [people] of color in a room. Particularly in a time like this. This ad campaign got so caught up in this ‘clever’ play on words and this stunt the [people] in the room missed what was so blatantly obvious to anyone not White.”

While the leftist outrage wasn’t all that surprising, given the hysteric nature of wokeness, what was somewhat surprising is that American Eagle refused to back down in the face of spiteful criticism and allegations of racism. Instead, it realeased a brief statement via social media in which it said it would continue to celebrate Sweeney and others.

That statement, which was released as a picture on the brand’s Instagram page, said, “‘Sydney Sweeney Has Great Jeans; is and always was about the jeans. Her jeans. Her story. We’ll continue to celebrate how everyone wears their AE jeans with confidence, their way. Great jeans look good on everyone.”

Conservatives on X quickly saw the statement and took to praising the brand for its unrepentant support of the model and decision to stick by its work. One such poster, for example, wrote, in response to a post about how cool it is to see a company not fold in the face of leftist pressure, “The Left boycotted, shrieked, and hissed but American Eagle just put out a statement standing their ground. This is a major victory in the culture war. MAGA is running this country now and Woke is as good as dead.”

Similarly, others said things like “American Eagle just released a statement defending their Sydney Sweeney ad. No apology. WOKE IS DEAD. 👏” and “American Eagle has issued its first official statement standing by Sydney Sweeney. Woke leftists won’t be happy about this. No backpedaling — no apologies!”
