Longtime SportsCenter anchor Jay Harris has shared some disappointing health news this week.

Harris revealed on Thursday that he is battling prostate cancer.

Harris revealed the news Thursday morning on Good Morning America: “I was diagnosed with prostate cancer. I’m having surgery on Tuesday, and I’ll be away from SportsCenter for about a month to recover,” Jay Harris said.

He made it clear that he was going to come back from this.

“And then I’m coming back better than ever.”

Jay Harris said he plans to undergo surgery on June 10 and will then take time off from “SportsCenter” to recover.

The 60-year-old Harris said in a press release through ESPN that his father also had a battle with prostate cancer, which he won.

Harris, who joined ESPN in 2003, said he has received an outpouring of support from his ESPN colleagues, as well as his family and friends, many of whom have shared with Harris a personal connection to prostate cancer.

The cancer has not spread, according to Harris, and he is attacking the treatment with a positive mindset.

“My doctor is quite optimistic,” Harris told Good Morning America.

“Per my last scan, nothing has spread. So once we take out the prostate, hopefully, that will be it. That’s the goal.”
