Coronation Street’s very own Shona Platt, played by Julia Goulding, has openly shared her dismay over the recent wave of departures hitting the iconic ITV soap. Since stepping into the role in 2016, Goulding has formed close connections with a host of actors, now seeing some dear friends due to exit within the year.

The exits of Paddy Bever (Max Turner) and Charlotte Jordan (Daisy Midgeley) have particularly struck a chord with Julia. Speaking of the exits, Julia said: “Devastated. I love Paddy so much and I could actually be his mother, it’s ridiculous.”

She professed further endearment for Bever: “He’s got a very bright future ahead of him and I would love to see him come back at some point, but I don’t know where his life is going to take him. Really sad to lose him.”

Being no less candid about Jordan’s departure, she humorously expressed: “And Charlie, don’t even get me started. I’m furious with her for leaving. I’m losing all of my mates.”

Yet it’s not all gloom on the set; Julia is also buzzing with excitement as Farrel Hegarty joins the team, a long-time friend of hers, bringing a glimmer of joy amidst the farewells, reports Leicestershire Live.

The fresh face in Weatherfield, taking on the character Lou Michaelis, termed a “nightmare neighbour” has been quick to blend in with the cast according to what Goulding reported to the Liverpool Echo.

She shared: “We’ve known each other for 20 years. It’s wonderful having her here. I’ve not done any scenes with her, but I did ask [show boss] Kate [Brooks] if we possibly could at some point. She’s wonderful and is perfect for Corrie.”

Julia Goulding remains a staple of Coronation Street drama as her character continues to navigate the Platts’ volatile story arc. The coming week pivots towards high tension as Max faces his sentencing for sparking the fire that threaded their family home in peril.

Drama amplifies when David Platt and Daisy find themselves embroiled in a hit-and-run catastrophe, imperilling both lives shortly thereafter.

In an episode scheduled for broadcast next Wednesday (March 5), David (Jack P Shepherd) finds himself imbibing his concerns away in the Rovers Return, angst-ridden over repaying Harvey Gaskell (Will Mellor) – a notorious gangster. Concurrently, Daisy grapples with inquiries from Daniel Osbourne regarding her child’s paternity.

A flustered exit from the pub coincides with David’s unsteady wander onto the road, culminating in both characters sustaining injuries from an oncoming vehicle.

Discussing the filming of these high-stakes scenes, Julia revealed the gritty realities behind theatrical portrayals: “There was a lot of blood. Jack was on the floor for a couple of days and we were both covered in this sticky, syrupy blood. I think we wore quite dark clothing as well to not upset compliance.”

The Platt family on Coronation Street has faced another adrenaline-fueled ordeal, this time following a previous fiery plot twist.

Actress Julia shared her excitement about participating in such thrilling narratives, remarking: “We have a fantastic gang with all the actors and the crew. You’re switching from really serious stuff and then absolutely side splitting laughing when the cameras aren’t rolling.”

Julia remained secretive about what’s in store for her character but suggested there could be chaos on the horizon, particularly given the uncertainty surrounding her on-screen partner’s destiny after a quarter-century on the soap.

Intriguingly, she hinted: “David’s going to be either dead or out of action. I can’t possibly say which. And with Max’s sentencing and everything, [Shona’s] putting out fires rather than being the fire.”

Coronation Street fans should not miss the exciting developments set to air Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays at 8pm on ITV, with the option to stream episodes from 7am on ITVX.
