Rather than featuring members of the public, twelve single celebrities spent five weeks on an island in hope of winning a combined £100,000. The inaugural Love Island winners were TV and radio presenter Jayne Middlemiss and Westlife’s former bouncer Fran Cosgrave.

However, Kelly was nowhere to be seen when Love Island returned for its second season. Fearne Cotton was drafted in to present alongside Patrick, with models Bianca Gascoigne and Calum Best, both of whom are also the children of football heroes, crowned the winners.

Returning to Loose Women on Tuesday afternoon, (February 3), Kelly spoke to her co-stars Christine Lampard, Kelle Bryan and Jane Moore about weight loss and body image.

Kelly used the topic to talk about being a smaller size but still being unhappy with how she was feeling inside. She recalled: “I mean, I have been a size 8 in my life, and I’ve been a size 14 to 16, so, as I’ve got older, I’ve put on weight, and my body’s changed.

“I look back on my time hosting Love Island, and I think I was a size 8 there, I’m skinny as a rake but so unhappy. I think my father was not very well during that time, or he might have passed away during that time.

“But I look back on that girl, and I think, gosh, I wouldn’t want to be her for anything now, because I’m so happy with my curves. I love to eat, I love my body.”

Kelly continued: “I just know why skinny is always fashionable and why people always strive to be skinny. I mean I guess it just depends on what makes you happy, but I do think it’s what we’re seeing out there, like what’s being represented in television, magazines, social media.

“If people are that successful and seen to be famous and doing everything they want to do in their life, I think people just think that it’s because they are slim.

“I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. I feel like I’m busier now than I’ve ever been in my relationship, and I’m definitely a size 12-14.”
