Jake Paul is on the road to recovery after his knock out loss on Friday, December 19.

“Surgery went well thanks for all the love and support,” Paul, 28, captioned a photo shared via Instagram on Saturday, December 20, showing the influencer-turned-boxer giving two thumbs up while sitting in a hospital bed. “2 titanium plates on each side. Some teeth removed. Have to have only liquids for 7 days so no @doghausdogs :(.”

In the same photo, Paul’s legs could be seen wrapped in a contraption that helps lower the risk of blood clots. One of his eyes appeared to be swollen shut.

Paul lost the Friday Netflix boxing match against Anthony Joshua by knockout, the first TKO of his career. He later revealed he suffered a broken jaw in two places after Joshua, 32, hit him in the face, causing him to instantly collapse in the ring.

“Broken jaw guys thanks for all the support I’m ok,” the caption to another post shared by Paul read, with a thumbs up emoji.

Despite the loss and injury, Paul later told reporters he felt fine after the fight. “I feel good. That was fun. I love this sport,” he said, per multiple media reports. “I got my ass beat, but that’s what this sport is about.

He continued, “Man, I’ve already won in every single way in life. This sport has helped me in every single way … I think my jaw is broken, by the way.”

Joshua spoke positively about Paul following the pair’s bout.

“Jake Paul did really well and he deserves his props. It takes a real man to do that and he deserves respect for trying and trying and trying,” Joshua said. “It takes a real man to do that. We have to give Jake Paul respect.”

Joshua added, “He came up against a real fighter tonight.”

Also while still in the ring, Joshua noted he thought the match would have ended earlier than it did. (Paul managed to hold on for six rounds before he was knocked out.)

“It wasn’t the best performance. It wasn’t the best,” Joshua said in the ring. “The end goal was ‘pin Jake Paul down and hurt him.’ It took a bit longer than expected.”

Paul previously went up against former heavyweight champion Mike Tyson, who is 31 years his senior, in November 2024, winning in a decision after eight two minute rounds.

“It’s such an honor. He’s a legend. He’s the greatest to ever do it. I’m inspired by him,” Paul said after his unanimous victory. “This man is an icon. It’s an honor to be able to fight him. It was really tough, like I expected it to be.”

“I didn’t prove nothing to anybody, only to myself. I’m not one of those guys that wants to please the world,” Tyson, 59, said after his loss, his first boxing match since 2005. “I’m only happy with what I can do.”

Tyson reflected on the match again the following day. “This is one of those situations when you lost but still won. I’m grateful for last night. No regrets to get in the ring one last time,” Tyson wrote via X on November 16. “I almost died in June. Had 8 blood transfusions. Lost half my blood and 25lbs in hospital and had to fight to get healthy to fight so I won.”

He added, “To have my children see me stand toe to toe and finish 8 rounds with a talented fighter half my age in front of a packed Dallas Cowboy stadium is an experience that no man has the right to ask for. Thank you.”
