James Martin has made an admission on his ITV show James Martin’s Saturday Kitchen today (November 15), after sharing an update with fans and speaking about the fellow chefs who made him nervous.

The chef made the comment during an interview with Cotswolds farmer Simon Weaver, who supplied ingredients for James’ delicious Apple and Honey Jalousie.

James remarked that it was now a “brutal milk market” for British farmers and admitted he’d had friends, who had had to tip away milk because it wasn’t selling.

James said: “I want to go back to you and the milk business. I’m mean notoriously difficult anyway, farming.

“I hugely appreciate everything farmers do around this country, but the milk industry, I mean, it’s brutal for you.

“I’ve got mates of mine who are milking cattle and it was going in the drain.”

In response, Simon shared a bittersweet update, saying that these tough times were a “little while ago” and added: “It’s actually quite good.”

Simon elaborated: “But the market goes up and down and you can have a little bit too much milk in the market and there’s no room for your milk. At the moment, it’s quite good. Prices are quite good.”

However, he admitted that many fellow farmers had sadly departed given the dire situation.

Adding: “A lot of dairy farmers have left the industry now and it’s getting fewer and fewer of us left standing, so milk’s not as plentiful as it was and probably likely to be less so as more people are squeezed out of the industry.”

James was speaking to Simon, who was at his farm Simon Weaver Cotswolds Organic Dairy in Upper Slaughter.

Today’s edition of James Martin’s Saturday Morning also featured former A Place in the Sun star Scarlette Douglas and her brother Stuart Douglas, who front the Channel 4 property series Can Sell, Must Sell.

The pair opened up about working together, including a spat over a chair with stiletto heels during a renovation. Scarlette even got their mother involved in the row with Stuart getting scolded.

Stuart joked that he was hoping to get some Vitamin D after working with Scarlette, given her previous slot on A Place in the Sun, but it hadn’t panned out that.

Instead, Stuart faced much more dreary and rainy weather than any sun-soaked locations.

“Since he’s come along, there’s been no sunshine,” Scarlette joked.

Nonetheless, Sturt said: “It’s been really good to work with my sister.”

Scarlette also revealed how she landed her big break thanks to I’m A Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! hosts Ant and Dec.

She revealed how she interviewed the presenting duo helped her and got advice from them, which in turned landed her A Place in the Sun.

She went on to reveal how she’s now setting her sights on America and has been going back and forth between the US and the UK for various meetings.

Scarlette said how she was trying to convince US television executives that property shows were going to be the next big thing on screens by presenting their UK viewing figures.

“I’ve learned how to sell myself in the States,” Scarlette said, adding: “Hopefully, something will come up soon.”

The episode also saw chefs Tommy Banks and Kenny Atkinson serving up some delectable dishes.

Kenny whipped up a mouth-watering poached and roasted quail with apple, hazelnuts and prune, while Tommy went for a beef dish.

James also showed audiences at home how to make classic French dessert Raspberry Mille-Feuille and a Spanish cake with cherries dipped in caramel.
