New Report Reveals How Anthony Joshua Narrowly Escaped Death With The Luckiest Decision Of His Life Before Fatal Car Crash In Nigeria

Anthony Joshua is lucky to be alive; that much is clear.

The British boxer was involved in a fatal accident in Nigeria last month, losing two of his friends. Joshua had beaten Jake Paul in a reported $186 million fight just 10 days prior.

Joshua’s friends, Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele, lost their lives just hours after arriving in the country for vacation. He was hospitalized with minor injuries and has since returned to the U.K.

The Daily Mail reports that their driver did not have a valid driver’s license.

The publication also notes that Joshua could have easily perished but swapped seats with one of the deceased before the tragic clash at the behest of his driver.

“The World Champion boxer, 36, swapped seats from the front to the back of his SUV before the smash which killed Sina Ghami and Latif Ayodele just hours after they arrived in Nigeria for a holiday,” the Mail reports.

Joshua’s driver, Adeniyi Mobolaji Kayode, has worked for the Watford-born star for over three years. He was charged with multiple offenses, including dangerous driving. The Mail learned of his failure to obtain a valid license during his court hearing, where he denied all charges.

Kayode claimed his brakes failed, which caused the accident. He has since been granted bail.

“My client has pleaded not guilty and what happened was an accident, I haven’t had a full chance to speak with him yet but I know he is saying the brakes did not work,” his attorney told the Mail.

“I also understand that the journey started in Lagos and that initially Anthony had got into the front seat but the driver asked him to swap seats.

“He did this because Anthony is a big fellow and he couldn’t see the wing mirror properly so he asked him to move and he sat behind the driver.

“From what I understand Latif was in front and then changed seats with Anthony.”

Kayode is facing charges of dangerous driving causing death, reckless and negligent driving, driving without care and attention and driving without a valid driver’s license.

His trial is scheduled to begin on January 20.
