The last thing the Chiefs needed was an injury to a star player, and that is precisely what happened when Travis Kelce collided with Xavier Worthy.

Nationals vs. Marlins Highlights

The two pass catchers collided in the first quarter, with Kelce and Worthy running routes in opposite directions.

Kelce isn’t very happy with his performance in Kansas City’s season opener in Brazil.

The Chiefs lost to the Los Angeles Chargers 27-21 on Friday. Kelce scored a 37-yard touchdown in the fourth quarter, but not much else went right for him.

Reflecting on the loss, the 35-year-old NFL tight end finally broke his silence about his performance and the injury caused to Xavier Worthy.

Travis Kelce cited being in the league for so long as a reason he needs to improve in that situation.

“I’m supposed to be running my route at depth for Worthy,” Kelce said on New Heights.

“So, it’s frustrating for me. I was trying to kind of set up my guy to be able to get into position, and it all just happened pretty quick. I just gotta be better, man. I’m 13 years in the league. There is no excuse for me running into my own guys like that.”

For the second consecutive season, the Kansas City Chiefs will have to take the field without a star wideout.

Wide receiver Xavier Worthy suffered what appeared to be a shoulder injury during Friday night’s matchup against the Los Angeles Chargers when he collided with tight end Travis Kelce as the two players were running crossing routes.

By Sunday, reports stated Worthy had sustained a shoulder dislocation, without giving a clear timeline for his return.

On Monday, head coach Andy Reid didn’t provide any further details about the injury, but did characterize it as “day-to-day.”

If his shoulder is indeed dislocated, Travis Kelce will need to step it up.

In the 27-21 loss, Kelce, who was caught yelling at offensive tackle Jawaan Taylor, had two catches for 47 yards and a touchdown. He may not be the same player he once was, but the team will certainly need him to dig deep to bring that person out for a few weeks.
