22 Kids and Counting star Millie Radford and her husband, Harley, were confronted with an agonising choice in the new series of the Channel 5 reality programme.

In the latest instalment, which airs on Sunday, Harley reveals he was forced to stop working after a significant health scare. This meant Millie had to return to work whilst Harley remained at home caring for their three children.

Yet, with money scarce and Harley finding things difficult at home, Millie chose to lift her husband’s spirits by purchasing the family a new puppy. Despite initially being hesitant about Bella, Harley quickly had a change of heart, and his mood lifted.

Things shortly took an unforeseen twist, though, as the family received devastating news when Harley discovered a lump on Bella’s stomach, which proved to be a severe health condition.

So grave in fact, that without immediate surgery, the problem could prove fatal, reports the Mirror.

Nevertheless, this family has no money, and with the procedure costing two and a half thousand pounds, they face the very real possibility that Bella will need to be put down.

Millie told the camera, “The thought of losing Bella was a massive shock. I definitely wasn’t expecting it. I was frightened to have to explain it to the kids, and obviously, Harley would be heartbroken, so that would be just destroying.”

Harley expressed his anguish, “When she said Bella could die, I was really upset. I can’t really explain; it’s when you feel like something has just been drained out. You are just stressed and really worried.”

The decision was straightforward for the pair, and they began gathering their belongings to sell and generate the necessary funds. Millie even made the heartbreaking choice to pawn her wedding ring to help pay for the dog’s operation, yet it still fell short.

Millie fought back tears as she departed the pawn shop before delivering the distressing news to her husband.

“I’ve pawned my ring,” Mille told Harley, to which her astonished husband responded, “You’ve pawned your ring. You’re joking me?”

As Millie confirmed the truth, Harley said, “I don’t understand. Her wedding ring is very important.”

Millie revealed that the sum she received for the ring doesn’t even cover half of what they require for the operation, and if she cannot repurchase her ring within 28 days, she will forfeit it permanently.

Meanwhile, in the episode, Millie’s parents, Sue and Noel, prepare to mark another year together.

They, too, receive a surprise, this time in the form of an unanticipated financial boost. This prompts Sue to spend lavishly and upgrade them to a five-star getaway in Dubai.
