A Strictly Come Dancing star has revealed that he attempted suicide after witnessing a 𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 as a teenager.

ITV and Celebrity Race Across The World star Tyler West competed on the BBC dancing competition back in 2022. Tyler was eliminated on the Blackpool special in week nine with his pro dance partner Dianne Buswell.

Despite not winning the series, Tyler found love when he met his future fianceé Molly Rainford, who reached the final with Carlos Gu. Announcing their relationship in March 2023, the couple went on to move in with each in London in January 2024.

Lorraine contributor Tyler got down on one knee to propose to the EastEnders actress back in August. Tyler chose their holiday to Mykonos as the perfect time to ask his girlfriend the important question, which she said yes to.

Appearing on the latest episode of Paul C. Brunson’s We Need To Talk podcast this week, Tyler spoke about witnessing a violent attack. According to Tyler, it left him with PTSD that he ‘couldn’t get rid of’.

He emotionally recalled: “My reaction to it all, was no, I can’t talk about it and that was probably the worst decision I ever made, like not talking about it… Because it built up a lot, like it was just, let’s sweep it under the carpet to the point that then it was unavoidable.

“And then it all came out at once in so many different ways, to the point that, yeah, I tried to kill myself, like it was tough. It was really tough.”

Tyler went on to tell Celebs Go Dating and Married At First Sight’s Paul that he found himself on top of a bridge after going for a walk when he was just 14-years-old.

“I can’t remember how long I was out on this bridge for. I can’t remember. My phone was d3ad. Everything. It was, it must have been about half 4 or 5 in the morning, and I didn’t know what I was going to do.

“But I felt so low, and I felt like, I can’t stop thinking about this. I just want to switch off for a second. There was just one car that came past right? And the car beeped.

“And then I was like, you’re not going to do this. I was like, you can’t. I was like, no way, can you? I went back home. I got into bed and I woke up and I just went about my day,” he noted.

Tyler went on to say that the 𝐌𝐮𝐫𝐝𝐞𝐫 occurred when he watched two local alcoholics’ from his bedroom window get into an argument. One of the men pulled out a knife and stabbed the other.

With his mum racing to ring the police, Tyler said the man ‘did not stop slashing and stabbing and slashing and stabbing’. Feeling ‘frozen’, Tyler said he had to stop his mum, who was a nurse, from going out and trying to help.

Following the incident, Tyler couldn’t use a knife and fork or watch scenes in films that involved knives. “Even to this day, my partner Molly, she hides my eyes…” he said.

Tyler also told Paul that he couldn’t be in any environment that involved drugs or alcohol as he would be convinced that someone was about to d!e. However, after years of struggling with his mental health, Tyler believes that talking about his experiences is his ‘biggest strength’.

“I see all of these things, and I think about those moments and they push me to where I go today, like they keep me going further. They’re actually my biggest strength. And my biggest strength comes about from talking about things,” he said.
