Presenter Ranvir Singh delivered a heartbreaking update just minutes into Friday’s episode of Good Morning Britain. The host shared the tragic news that all eight victims killed in two separate shootings – at a school and at a home – in the Canadian Rockies town of Tumbler Ridge earlier this week have now been named.
She went on to say that those found dead in Tumbler Ridge Secondary School were a 39-year-old female teacher, three female students, all aged 12, and two male students, aged 12 and 13. Meanwhile, the mum and step-brother of the shooter were both also found dead at the home they shared with the 18-year-old shooter, Jesse Van Rootselaar. The victims’ names were Kylie Smith, Abel Mwansa, Zoey Benoit, Shannda Aviugana-Durand, Ticaria Lampert, Ezekiel Schofield, Jennifer Jacobs and Emmett Jacobs. Two children were also badly injured in the attack, with at least 25 people wounded in total.

Chief Supt Floyd said the suspect was found dead at the school. It was the same person police described in an alert sent to phones, which described a “female in a dress with brown hair”. They were found dead with a self-inflicted injury following the shooting.
The attack is the deadliest school shooting in the country since 14 students were killed at Montreal’s L’Ecole Polytechnique in 1989.
The Royal Canadian Mounted Police (RCMP) wrote in a statement on its website: “In consultation with the families, the following photos and personal statements are being shared to honour the lives lost.

The Canadian Olympic Committee also released a statement from the Winter Olympics in Milan. It read: “We are heartbroken by the news of the horrific school shooting that occurred in British Columbia.
“Our thoughts are with the families who have lost loved ones, those who are injured, and the entire Tumbler Ridge community. Team Canada stands with everyone affected as they navigate difficult days ahead.”
French President Emmanuel Macron said: “Horror has struck a school in Tumbler Ridge, Canada. Thoughts to the families of the victims, the injured, and the entire educational community. France stands with the Canadians.”
