The Today Show hosts debated the idea of “favorite children” as a new study on the topic was recently released.

The study detailed how having a favorite child can cause psychological issues in both the more liked kid and the less favorable child. The favorite, more agreeable child may think love is conditional, while the least favorite child may struggle with behavior, mental health and academic success.

The Today Show panelists consequently opened up about their own children, and discussed whether they have any favorites. Moreover, Al Roker and Willie Geist went back and forth with a funny response to the question.

Al said he has a bizarre way to determine which one is in his good graces. The 70-year-old said: “I think it also depends, at different times, you know, one’s a little more favorable than the other.”

Willie agreed, saying: “I love different things about my kids. So it never would’ve crossed my mind to say, ‘I like this one better than the other.’ I like them both in different ways.”

Joking, Al then chimed back in: “I want them to vie for my love and attention.” All the other hosts laughed, and Willie jested, “You keep an active power ranking,” to which Al responded, “Yes, like a bracket.”

Al Roker has three children with his wife
Al has three children with his wife Deborah Roberts. He recently released a cookbook called “Al Roker’s Recipes to Live By,” which he made with one of his daughters, Courtney.

The TV host reportedly shared with Courtney, a professional chef, the meals he ate growing up as she developed the recipes. Al told Stephen Colbert of the book: “My mom never wrote down recipes, my grandmother didn’t.

“So [Courtney] had to literally reverse engineer all the foods I would talk to her about.” He added: “She did just such a – I’m so proud of her.”
