Brenda Edwards broke down in tears on Loose Women discussing the d@ath of her son Jamal – as her fellow ITV panelists rushed to comfort her.

The singer and presenter, 56, tragically lost Jamal back in February 2022 when he passed away aged 31.

During Monday’s (February 2) episode of Loose Women, the group – which included Brenda, Kaye AdamsSue Cleaver and Nadia Sawalha – discussed the topic of grief.

Speaking in the programme, Brenda said: ‘I find it so comforting to hear stories about Jamal all the time.

‘I love it and I get messages from people and it’s really comforting. But there’s such a wave.

‘It seems like 20 hours out of a 24 hour day, I’m just in a…’

At this point, Brenda became noticeably emotional and brought to tears, as her co-stars offered comfort.

One viewer wrote: ‘I love Brenda Edwards, bless her for getting upset today on Loose Women. Sending my love. xx.’

Another added: ‘@loosewomen Lots of love & hugs to Brenda Edwards.’

A third shared: ‘My heart aches for Brenda.’

While a fourth chimed in: ‘I don’t believe there is a greater grief than losing your child, no matter the circumstances. I don’t think you ever recover from that.’

A fifth commented: ‘Oh dear that’s incredibly difficult for Brenda today on #loosewomen.

‘We all have our triggers who what sets us off and there should be no judgement for how we individually deal with it.’

DJ and music entrepreneur Jamal tragically died from a cardiac arrest, brought on from cocaine and alcohol.

He gained fame from setting up new music platform SB.TV, which helped to launch Ed’s career.

Last year, Brenda moved other members of the Loose Women panel when she shared her thoughts about bereavement.

She told Charlene White, Linda Robson and Gloria Hunniford: ‘ I like to say the keep calm and carry on T-shirt is permanently with me.

‘Obviously everybody knows everything that I’ve been through, but it’s like you need a tool kit.’

The TV star elaborated how she believes you need different things to get you through trials in life.

Brenda explained: ‘You might have a ladder because you’ve got the ups and the downs, you might have a hammer because it just bashes you sometimes.

‘And I like a spirit level to keep me on the straight line and you’ve got to have some glue to try and put yourself back together after it.’

However, she went on to share, ‘Obviously I have had some people message and say ‘it’s nice to see you’re moving on.’ And I’m definitely not moving on from anything.’

Brenda added: ‘It gives me strength to remember, and it gives me strength to have a legacy to keep working on.

‘My family are so supportive and that means everything to me. Keep calm, keep smiling and carry on.’

And in 2023, Brenda broke down in tears as she emotionally reflected on being with Jamal when he passed away.

She tearfully described the moment her music producer son died at the age of 31 as ‘gut-wrenching’.

Brenda opened up about his devastating d@ath and her struggles with grief on Ashley Cain’s MTV show Faces, emotionally sharing that she was with her son when he died.

She spoke about the news of Jamal’s d@ath being shared online just hours after his d@ath, admitting she will never get over the ‘anger’ she felt at the announcement being taken away from her.

In a previous episode, the four women talked about how they 'keep calm and carry on' and Brenda opened up about how she has dealt with difficult times

Speaking on the episode she said: ‘I was with Jamal when he passed, me and his sister and I can say he was so peaceful but it was a gut-wrenching moment for me.’

The former X Factor star went on to speak about the news of Jamal’s d@ath being circulated on social media before she was able to put out an announcement.

Brenda admitted she was ‘very angry’ after seeing the news had broken on social media and said she doesn’t think she will ever come to terms with the ‘disrespect’.

She continued: ‘The one thing I didn’t like was the announcement of him passing was taken away from me. I think people should have just had that respect for him and for me.

‘That’s nobody else’s business, when I want to say whatever I want to say, then I should be able and I have the right to be announcing that. But that was taken out of my hands.

‘I was angry, very angry. It’s a shame because it took away from that moment of my grief to “who did that?”‘ It wasn’t even 24 hours. This was on the same night, it’s like 5-6 hours afterwards.

‘I can’t process this because social media is going crazy. That was a bit of disrespect I don’t think I’ll ever come to terms with.’
