Susanna Reid opened Good Morning Britain with an announcement about her co-star Ed Balls. The duo continued fronting the ITV programme on Tuesday (February 25), sharing the top headlines of the day with viewers.
The presenter kicked off the show in normal fashion, but ended it with a little twist as she revealed today is Ed’s birthday. “It has just gone six o’clock. Welcome to the programme and our main news story is it’s your birthday,” she quipped, turning towards her co-host.

“Happy birthday,” Susanna exclaimed as Ed responded: “Thank you very much indeed.”
Susanna admitted they had to have a “pep talk” in the dressing room before going on air, as Ed expressed concern about his age.
“We did. I know. Well, you know. It’s a burdening birthday,” Ed declared as he reflected on turning 59.
“I’m 59 which means I’m entering my 60th year,” the presenter explained. An enthusiastic Susanna replied: “Fantastic! What an achievement.”
Ed joked that he still feels 34 in his mind, unable to hide his disbelief that he is pushing 60.
“Not yet,” Susanna pointed out. “You have a year until 60 and my point is always, another year is something to celebrate because consider the alternative.
“It’s fantastic to be in good health as you hurtle towards your 60th birthday. You have a whole year to enjoy before you get to the big six zero.”
After Susanna wished Ed a happy birthday again, he thanked her for the card and the book she gifted him.
Explaining how his birthday was celebrated behind-the-scenes, Ed revealed he was presented with a cake and balloons, declaring: “It’s the most birthday celebrations I’ve had for years!”
Fans took to social media to wish Ed a happy birthday, with one writing: “Happy birthday, Ed! May your day be filled with cake, laughs, and the odd bit of cheeky banter—just like any good Yorkshire celebration! How’s the party shaping up?”
Another posted: “Happy birthday, birthday twinnie. Only the best was born on this day!”
A third commented: ” Happy Birthday Ed. Have a Wonderful day ahead! Lotsa love from Wales.”
