Kelly Brook confesses ‘I was a size 8 but so unhappy’ in Love Island admission

Loose Women star Kelly Brook has bravely opened up about her body image and why she is now “happier than ever.”

Kelly Brook has confessed she was unhappy while hosting Love Island more than 20 years ago.

The 46-year-old fronted the first series of the original Celebrity Love Island in 2005, alongside Patrick Kielty for ITV, with the show airing from Fiji. However, she didn’t return for the second series in 2006, which was hosted by Fearne Cotton.

During Tuesday’s episode of Loose Women (February 3), Kelly joined her co-stars Christine Lampard, Kelle Bryan, and Jane Moore, and the discussion soon turned to weight loss and body image.

The topic spurred Kelly to open up about her own experience of being a smaller size, yet still feeling unhappy. Kelly explained: “I mean, I have been a size 8 in my life, and I’ve been a size 14 to 16, so, as I’ve got older, I’ve put on weight, and my body’s changed.

“I look back on my time hosting Love Island, and I think I was a size 8 there, I’m skinny as a rake but so unhappy.”

“I think my father was not very well during that time, or he might have passed away during that time. But I look back on that girl, and I think, gosh, I wouldn’t want to be her for anything now, because I’m so happy with my curves. I love to eat, I love my body.”

Kelly, who married her husband Jeremy Parisi in July 2022, added, “I just know why skinny is always fashionable and why people always strive to be skinny. I mean I guess it just depends on what makes you happy, but I do think it’s what we’re seeing out there, like what’s being represented in television, magazines, social media.

“If people are that successful and seen to be famous and doing everything they want to do in their life, I think people just think that it’s because they are slim. I don’t think that’s necessarily the case. I feel like I’m busier now than I’ve ever been in my relationship, and I’m definitely a size 12-14.”

Kelly is a woman of many talents, having started her career as a model and been a prominent ‘page three girl’ in the noughties, which led to her winning FHM’s Sexiest Woman in the World in 2005.

Beyond her career as a model, Kelly has starred in plenty of movies, most notably The Italian Job (2003) and Piranha 3D (2010).

Kelly also competed on Strictly Come Dancing in 2007, was a contestant on Celebrity Race Across the World in 2024, and starred in last year’s series of I’m A Celebrity Get Me Out of Here. The television star is also a radio host on Heart Radio.
