Ellen DeGeneres has revealed that Dопɑld Tгuмρ’s re-election prompted her decision to relocate to the United Kingdom.
The former talk show host and her spouse, Portia de Rossi, made the move to the Cotswolds from California in November, with the couple now permanently residing in the English countryside, Ellen disclosed during her first public appearance on Sunday, July 20.
Ellen opened up about her relocating to Cotswolds from the the United States during a chat with broadcaster Richard Bacon at the Everyman theatre in nearby Cheltenham. According to the BBC, when Richard questioned the comedian about whether reports linking her move to Tгuмρ’s re-election were accurate, Ellen simply responded, “Yes.”
Ellen went on to explain that she and Portia had initially intended to spend just three or four months annually in the UK, with their Cotswolds property purchased as “a part-time house.”
Everything shifted when Tгuмρ secured his re-election victory last November. The pair initially purchased the home in October 2024.
“We got here the day before the election and woke up to lots of texts from our friends with crying emojis, and I was like, ‘He got in’,” she recalled. “And we’re like, ‘We’re staying here.’”

Ellen also raved about countryside living to the broadcaster, which she has offered occasional peeks into on social media. She expressed her adoration for their new lifestyle and the surrounding environment, while also mentioning their farm animals.
“It’s absolutely beautiful,” Ellen exclaimed. “We’re just not used to seeing this kind of beauty. The villages and the towns and the architecture – everything you see is charming and it’s just a simpler way of life.”
“It’s clean. Everything here is just better – the way animals are treated, people are polite. I just love it here,” She added, “We moved here in November, which was not the ideal time, but I saw snow for the first time in my life. We love it here. Portia flew her horses here, and I have chickens, and we had sheep for about two weeks.”

Ellen isn’t alone in her exodus from the US following Tгuмρ’s re-election; Rosie O’Donnell also sought refuge abroad. In January, just five days before Tгuмρ’s inauguration, Rosie relocated to Ireland, settling in Dublin with her 12-year-old adopted son, Clay.
Rosie opened up about her move in a March Instagram video. Without directly naming Tгuмρ, she mentioned the political atmosphere influencing her decision, stating, “It’s been heartbreaking to see what’s happening politically and hard for me personally as well. The personal is political, as we all know.”
In an April interview with US Weekly, Rosie commented on Ellen’s departure and the speculation that it was motivated by Tгuмρ’s presidency.
“I’ve never really known Ellen to say anything political in her life, so I was surprised to read that she left because of President Tгuмρ. Like, that shocked me, actually,” Rosie confessed to the outlet.
