ITV’s daytime shows have undergone a shake-up in 2026
Kate Garraway, the main news presenter on Good Morning Britain, has taken on additional responsibilities following ITV’s significant daytime programming cuts.
Last May, ITV’s budget reductions affecting flagship programmes such as Lorraine and Loose Women were described as a ‘bloodbath’ by insiders when details of the channel’s restructuring emerged.
The 58 year old Celebrity Traitors star was recently seen presenting London news updates as remaining staff adapt to their revised roles. A viewer shared a clip on X, formerly Twitter, of the mother-of-two wearing a navy velour dress, commenting: “Edit showing Kate back at the main desk right after the London bulletin.”

The announcement of ITV’s schedule overhaul last year left audiences shocked. The restructuring at ITV Studios has reportedly resulted in more than 220 redundancies, representing nearly half of the approximately 440 staff employed across these shows.
Lorraine has seen the most dramatic transformation, slashed from an hour to just 30 minutes and reduced to 30 weeks annually, down from 52, reports the Mirror.
Loose Women will maintain its existing format but will also be cut back to 30 weeks per year. This Morning remains unaffected in terms of duration and frequency, whilst Good Morning Britain has been extended by half an hour, now broadcasting from 6am until 9:30am.
The most significant alterations impact Lorraine, which has been cut from an hour to just 30 minutes and will broadcast for only 30 weeks annually, a reduction from the current 52.
Viewers had a varied reaction to the Scottish presenter’s abbreviated programme today, with some questioning: “What’s the point?” during transmission. Once Lorraine had outlined the programme’s content, along with commercial breaks, limited time remained for in-depth interviews.
Nevertheless, when addressing the programme’s restructuring, the experienced broadcaster simply remarked: “It’s all good” as she continued with the show, which retains a devoted following.
Meanwhile, GMB has been extended and launched dramatically today with a fiery on-air confrontation.

During an intense exchange, presenter Susanna Reid spoke over Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, who had appeared to discuss whether the party would ‘make a deal’ with Reform and how it would alter Labour’s recent policies.
Following her question to Ms Badenoch about reinstating the two-child benefit cap, Susanna then enquired: “Would you keep the increase in employers’ national insurance or would you cut that?” Ms Badenoch responded rather evasively: “So you’re asking lots of questions…”
A visibly upset Susanna promptly cut her off, exclaiming: “Yes because the Prime Minister says we need to know what you would you do as an alternative!”
The politician retorted: “We wouldn’t have done this in the first place. What we’re asking now is how much of Labour’s mess are we going to have to clean up?”
Good Morning Britain continues on weekdays at 6am on ITV and ITV X.
