Kelly Clarkson made the tough choice to postpone her highly anticipated opening dates for her Las Vegas residency, and it wasn’t easy.

A source claimed the 43-year-old singer “didn’t want to cancel any shows,” but to protect her vocal cords, she had to, and the decision was very upsetting. “She was devastated and felt terrible for fans that had traveled to see her,” the source explained. “She’s been very excited about the Las Vegas residency and connecting with her fans.”

Kelly’s Studio Sessions residency at the famed Colosseum at Caesars Palace was supposed to begin on the Fourth of July, kicking of a set of 18 concerts scheduled through November 15.

However, just before it was showtime, the Grammy-winning crooner revealed she was canceling the shows on July 4 and 5.

Kelly took to Instagram, sharing with her countless fans that “prep and rehearsals have taken a toll” on her vocal instrument, so she’d be taking the weekend and the week after to “rest up so that we can deliver what you all deserve.”

She penned, “I want the shows to be perfect for y’all. The show is truly incredible. The musicians and singers are outstanding, and I want us all to start out strong.

“I can’t wait to be back next weekend and show y’all what we’ve been working on.” The source divulged to People that the talk show host’s vocal problems ensued “quickly” following “long rehearsing sessions,” which resulted in there being postponements.

“Even as a seasoned singer, she pushes herself too hard. Vegas is very dry too and it seemed this was an issue as well for the vocal health,” the source noted.

“She was pretty much forced to [in order to] prevent long-term damage.” Even though Kelly’s shows were axed this past weekend, the residency is slated to kick off Friday, July 11.

“She’s ready to kick things off this weekend though,” the source continued.

The first American Idol winner announced her residency in February, admitting at the time that she was “so excited” to be back in Las Vegas after her previous performances at Vegas’ PH Live at Planet Hollywood Resort & Casino in 2023 and 2024.
