Former Waterloo Road star Reece Douglas has revealed the heartbreaking news that his father has di3d by suicide. Reece joined the BBC school drama in 2009, playing troubled teenager Denzil Kelly. His character struggled to fit in at school while dealing with a difficult home life and complex family dynamics. The character’s journey ended in series seven during 2012 when he di3d in a lorry accident whilst travelling to Scotland. But Reece’s acting career continued to flourish – in reality, it was only just beginning. He subsequently featured in shows such as Doctors, Casualty and Holby City before stepping away from the entertainment industry to pursue a new career in the technology sector. He currently works as CEO of tech start-up Social Plug. The company “connects brands and agencies to content creators”.

On Thursday, October 30 the entrepreneur shared the tragic news on social media. He took to Instagram to publish an emotional tribute to his late father.

Sharing an image of himself smiling alongside his dad, he wrote: “I love you so much dad. Knowing my dad recently, more so than ever, never did I truly know he’d take his life. I’m going to make you so proud.”

His 13,000 followers quickly rallied around him in the comments, with one writing: “So sorry to hear this @reecedouglas1. Thinking of you and your family. You’ll continue to make him proud every day. Sending so much love”. Another fan wrote: “I’m so sorry for your loss. I know it doesn’t help the pain but he is now not in pain and watching over you. I’m 1000000% sure he couldn’t have been prouder of you.”

Emmerdale’s Danny Miller commented: “Oh mate, I’m so sorry! Sending loads of love brother”. Former Emmerdale and Hollyoaks star Anthony Quinn expressed: “Sorry to hear the news mate. Sending love and thoughts to you and family.”
