Lorraine Kelly was back on TV screens on Thursday (12 June) with a new episode of her ITV chat show. In it, she welcomed some celebrity guests and discussed the latest showbiz news.

The TV presenter discussed various topics during the episode, including the use of filters on social media and how they can negatively impact people.

Lorraine was joined by Emily Clarkson, daughter of ex-Top Gear host Jeremy, as she discussed her latest social media post, which regularly shares posts on Instagram about body image.

During the chat, a photograph of Lorraine in a bikini was shown alongside a heavily edited version, to demonstrate the immense difference filters and editing can make to a picture.

“It just shows you what you can do now,” Lorraine exclaimed, before going on to share her initial reaction to the photo.

“It depends on what you’re using it for. They did it with me, and I looked at it, and I actually laughed! I thought, crikey!” the TV host went on.

Pointing at the original snap, she added: “That’s more kind of normal, I’ve got a belly, who hasn’t?”

Lorraine noted how it was simply a case of getting the skin tone correct before “pulling you in”, while Emily said it is “too easy” to edit photographs now.

The conversation also saw Lorraine reflect on a segment she took part in on her chat show over 10 years ago, where she donned a bikini live on air and danced with her co-stars outside.

She remarked that she’d covered herself in fake tan for the clip, but there was no editing. “I did lather on the fake tan, and, as you can see, I was the colour of a satsuma!” she added.

The TV star also laughed as she admitted she “couldn’t believe” she’d taken part in the segment.

Lucie Cave, who also joined the duo on the sofa, pointed out how Lorraine was a “champion” of not using filters at the time, despite it being normal at the time to airbrush or edit photographs.
