Kate Beckinsale has opened up about her challenging year, following her fight against trolls who have been criticising her appearance. The 52-year-old actress took to Instagram to slam those who have been commenting on her appearance. In an emotional clip, she opened up on her social page and told her followers that she’d had a “really, really hard year.” She said: “2026 was a really, really hard year. It was also the last year that my incredible mum was on this planet. So I feel really torn about letting go of it as well.”

She then opened up about the death of her stepfather a few years prior, adding that she had also watched her father die while her mother was in the hospital when she was just five years old. Kate added: “I watched my 31-year-old father die of a huge heart attack.”

She continued: “Then I watched my stepfather die, and I watched my mother degenerate and die. Such an incredible amount of suffering and what I will say, it doesn’t make you feel very hungry.” She questioned whether she had been feeling “survivor’s guilt” due to her loss of hunger starting after her stepdad’s death.

She said: “It’s not like anorexia, where you’re starving and it’s kind of a willpower thing. It’s like your body has closed down. I think it’s shock and trauma.” Kate wrapped up the video by saying watching the people she loved the most suffer just stopped her hunger.

Kate explained her mother had been dealing with stage four cancer for two years before her death in July, which “paralysed” Kate with grief.

At the time, she paid a heartbreaking tribute to her mum as she praised her for her love of life, adding that her funeral was “so full of love and happiness and joy”.

Kate continued: “You are a bridge builder, a hoarder of love, an archiver of precious history of respect for years of friendship and my God that showed. The hardest thing I ever had to do was say goodybe to you and I haven’t managed it yet.”

The actress took to Instagram for the first time since July to say goodybe to 2025 and filled her feed with pictures of her late mum, writing: “Well, it’s goodnight from us 2025 x”.
