ITV has unveiled a fresh trailer for its upcoming royal drama centring on Sarah Ferguson and her former dresser, who was found guilty of murder, just hours after the latest damaging Jeffrey Epstein emails emerged. The new royal drama, titled The Lady, focuses on Fergie’s former royal dresser, Jane Andrews, who was convicted of killing her boyfriend nearly 26 years ago.

Ms Andrews was employed by Ms Ferguson for nine years, from 1988 to 1997. In the upcoming drama, she is played by Mia McKenna-Bruce, while Fergie is portrayed by Natalie Dormer. ITV shared the trailer on its social media account with the caption: “Jane Andrews, former dresser to Sarah Ferguson, then Duchess of York.

“She rose from Grimsby to Buckingham Palace, and fell from Buckingham Palace to the Old Bailey, on trial for the murder of her partner. The Lady. Coming soon.”

Natalie Dormer, who plays Sarah in the series, caused a stir last year when she revealed she would not be promoting the show, following revelations about Fergie’s links to the late convicted paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

At the time, Dormer explained: “new information makes it impossible for me to reconcile my values with Sarah Ferguson’s behaviour, which I believe is inexcusable.”

ITV’s new crime drama will explore the dramatic rise and fall of Cleethorpes-born Andrews, the former royal dresser whose dream life came to a shocking end after she was convicted of murder.

In 2000, Andrews attacked her wealthy boyfriend, Tom Cressman, at their flat in Fulham, London, striking him with a cricket bat while he slept before stabbing him with a kitchen knife.

The following year, she faced trail at the Old Bailey, where she was found guilty of murder and sentenced to life in prison, the Express reports.

Andrews spent 14 years behind bars before being released on licence in 2015. However, she was recalled to prison in 2018 following allegations that she had harassed a married man.

Police investigated the claims but took no action after finding no evidence. She was subsequently released again in 2019.

The Lady features an impressive cast. Alongside Mia McKenna-Bruce and Natalie Dormer, the series stars Outlander’s Ed Speleers as Thomas Cressman, as well as Philip Glenister, Claire Skinner, Laura Aikman, Ophelia Lovibond, Mark Stanley, Daniel Ryan and Sean Teale.

The series will air on ITV1 and STV in the UK and will also be available to stream on ITVX and STV Player.

The news comes just hours after Fergie, who no longer holds the title of Duchess of York, faced renewed scrutiny over her links to Jeffrey Epstein following the release of another batch of shocking emails by the US Department of Justice.

A spokesperson for the former duchess previously stated that she had expressed regret over her association with Epstein and “does not resile” from publicly condemning him.

She has not yet commented on the latest emails.
