Good Morning Britain was interrupted as Prince William made a bombshell remark about Andrew Mountbatten-Windsor’s arrest. Monday’s (February 23) programme was fronted by Ed Balls and Susanna Reid, with news of Andrew’s arrest still dominating headlines. The former Duke of York was arrested last Thursday on suspicion of misconduct in a public office.

Hoping to put the scandal behind them for an evening, William, 43, attended the BAFTA Film Awards alongside Princess Kate, 44, on Sunday, where he was asked if he is yet to watch the film Hamnet. Speaking on Good Morning Britain, correspondent Jonathan Swain explained how William responded by saying: “No. I haven’t seen it. I need to be in a calm state for that and I’m not at the moment.”

Swain continued: “King Charles is expected to assist the police in their investigation by giving them access to any files. Remember, Prince Andrew would have had royal protection officers with him. But the former head of royal protection says that needs to be looked at.”

He added that there are growing calls amongst MPs for a judge-led enquiry into Andrew’s time as the UK’s trade envoy.

The King is expected to share the files due to fears over the chance of a “cover up” of Andrew’s behaviour during his friendship with the late paedophile Jeffrey Epstein.

Following his arrest at his temporary home on the Sandringham estate in Norfolk, Andrew was interviewed at Aylsham police station for 11 hours before being released under investigation.

He has always denied any wrongdoing and has not been charged following his arrest.

The Observer reported that police will be able to view all records, emails, and government files relating to his stint as trade envoy.

A royal source told the publication: “We have said we will cooperate fully and wholeheartedly.”

It comes after Former Head of Royal Protection Command, Dai Davies, insists there is a “conspiracy of silence” surrounding Andrew in a bombshell Channel 4 News interview.

He said: “They will have to decide with their conscience and their moral compass, what they did or didn’t see.

“It beggars belief to my mind that for 15, 20, whatever years we’re now looking at, nobody: police officers, private secretaries, those accompanying, diplomats… To me, I would summarise it by saying it’s a conspiracy of silence by some people. It must be.”

Davies went on to claim: “Common sense says somebody must have seen aspects or behaviour. I would have thought, visiting the various properties Epstein had not once, not twice, but numerous times, that no-one could have seen anything untoward.

“And that’s the point I’m making. But it needs investigating. To allege these things is one thing, to prove it is another, as you well know.”
