Just moments into Good Morning Britain starting, the ITV show was interrupted as a presenter issued a huge warning on Wednesday morning. Weather presenter Laura Tobin shared that Storm Chandra is battering England and Wales.
Homes, businesses and schools have all been impacted so far, and it’s not over yet. Laura told viewers that people are being told to brace for a second wave of disruption with 101 flood warnings in place across the country. The weather lady showed images of cars struggling to get through floodwaters in Northern Ireland and Birmingham. She said it is “widespread” across England, Wales and parts of Northern Ireland. “The problem is that we had record amounts of rainfall,” Laura explained. “We also had record river levels and rivers are continuing to rise.”

She then showed that there are currently 101 flood warnings and 260 flood alerts across the UK. “The floodwater could still be there for days to come,” Laura warned. “And, there is still plenty more rain on the way.”
The Met Office issued amber ‘danger to life’ warnings earlier in the week because of the storm. Flooding and travel disruption is likely in places, with significant snow expected across higher ground in some northern areas.
Chief forecaster Paul Gundersen said the UK was facing a “complex spell of weather” as a deep area of low pressure moved in, and urged people to stay up to date with weather warnings.
“Initially strong winds will impact the Isles of Scilly, western Cornwall and southwest Wales which are still vulnerable after Storm Goretti, gusts of 70 to 80mph are possible here,” he said.
“Heavy rain is an additional hazard as it falls on saturated ground in Dorset and southern parts of Devon, Somerset and Cornwall.
“As Chandra interacts with colder air further north snow becomes a hazard, with 10 to 20cm of snow possibly accumulating over higher ground in the Pennines, southern Scotland and the Highlands.
