BBC Morning Live issued an emotional update on Tuesday’s show leaving one presenter in tears

A BBC Morning Live presenter was left fighting back tears on Tuesday’s show after an emotional viewer message.

During the latest instalment, hosts Gethin Jones and Louise Minchin discussed the latest headlines, which included a 61% surge in cases of the dreaded norovirus and the fact hospitals are at capacity.

Louise, 57, added: “In just over ten minutes, Xand explains why the 48-hour rule is key to protecting loved ones” to which Gethin, 47, continued: “All our doctors’ advice can make a real difference, and we have proof of that here, Xand.”

Reading out a viewer message, Gethin said: “This is from Clive. Morning, Clive. Clive got in touch with us after you spoke about pneumonia last Monday.

“This is what he says: ‘Last Thursday, I was beginning to feel very unwell and many were trying to refer me to my GP. I put my foot down and eventually got an ambulance out. I was diagnosed with pneumonia. Your doctor, Dr Xand, saved my life.’”

Morning Live doctor, Xand van Tulleken, was left visibly emotional over the message as he admitted: “Oh, Clive, that gives me a lump in my throat. That’s so nice.

“It’s so hard to seek health care for yourself. You feel the pressure the NHS is on. It is so hard to go, ‘I actually think I’m so ill, I need an ambulance, I need to go and get proper help.’

“We are not, as a nation, as a culture, we don’t do it very well. Clive, that is absolutely brilliant. I’m thrilled. I mean, he’s the one who saved his life, so brilliant work, Clive.”

It comes as Xand previously revealed he had to drop everything live on air – because his wife had gone into labour. The medic, who is best known appearing on the BBC show alongside the likes of Kym Marsh, Gethin and Helen Skelton, was recording an episode of his What’s Up Docs podcast with his brother Chris when his wife Dolly got in touch.

The pair, who have been married since 2023, already have 21-month-old son Rex together, were expecting the arrival of their daughter in November last year, and Dolly knew immediately that the little one was on her way so she called her husband whilst he was at work.

She could be heard saying: “So I think I’m pretty sure it’s starting. I’m just feeling quite sort of… not massively frequent but quite regular period pain feelings that were very similar to what I had when you got home when I went into labour with Rex!”

Xand then turned to his brother and said: “Chris we’re now 41 weeks plus one, Dolly’s having regular period pain,” but his sibling was dumbstruck as to why he was still sitting there.

He told him: “Why are you still speaking? I think you’ve gotta leave!” It was at that moment that Xand, who also has a teenage son from a previous relationship, dashed out of the studio to be at his wife’s side as she prepared to give birth.

Several hours later, the couple became parents to baby Daphne. In a follow-up video, the TV star said: “‘So I got home in good time, having sprinted from the studio but Dolly was in labour and our daughter Daphne was born at home at 10:30 that night. She is doing brilliantly, her mum is doing brilliantly, she is absolutely perfect.”

The clip was only posted to social media on Saturday 3 January, but Dolly had previously broken the news in early December that the their daughter arrived on November 27.
