GB News took to social media in fury after the breakfast programme issued an update on Meghan Markle.

GB News found itself at the centre of a fresh storm this week after a headline-grabbing update about Meghan Markle prompted furious viewers to abandon the channel mid-broadcast — with many accusing the network of fuelling “pointless Markle obsession.”
The backlash erupted during the breakfast programme hosted by Ellie Costello and Stephen Dixon, when the panel turned its attention to reports that the Duchess of Sussex had allegedly raked in a staggering £27 million from selling jam, following the launch of her Netflix lifestyle series With Love, Meghan.
What was meant to be a light newspaper discussion quickly spiralled into a flashpoint — not just over Meghan’s earnings, but over audience fatigue with her continued dominance of headlines.
Joining the discussion were Mail on Sunday editor-at-large Charlotte Griffiths and dancer AJ Griffiths, who wasted little time casting doubt on the eye-watering figure.
“I’m a little bit sceptical about that number,” Charlotte said pointedly, raising eyebrows in the studio. “She gives this image of picking her own strawberries, of being incredibly hands-on.”
But then came the sting.

“We’ve all seen the photo of her taking jam out of a hot pot using tongs — upside down,” she added. “That alone suggests she’s not exactly slaving away over a stove.”
Charlotte went further, dismantling the romanticised image surrounding the brand.
“To make that kind of money, you’d have to produce well over a million jars,” she said. “That’s not being made at home in Montecito. That’s factory-level production.”
As the scepticism mounted on screen, anger exploded off it.
GB News’ social media channels were flooded with furious responses from viewers who claimed they had immediately switched off once Meghan’s name appeared.
“Off it goes — Markle jam again,” one viewer wrote. “I actually thought she was standing there all day making jam herself. The people who bought a million jars must be mad.”
Another fumed: “More pointless Meghan Markle commentary. I’ll be interested the day she starts selling sticks of Montecito Rock — stamped ‘FAKE’ all the way through.”
Others accused the channel of hypocrisy, questioning why GB News continues to cover the Duchess at length while simultaneously criticising her relevance.
“GB News complain about celebrity nonsense — then spend airtime talking about Meghan’s jam,” one user snapped. “Make it make sense.”
The incident reignites a long-running tension between Meghan Markle and large sections of the British viewing public, particularly those who feel oversaturated by stories surrounding her post-royal ventures.

While Meghan’s supporters argue her business success reflects savvy branding and independence, critics see the coverage as emblematic of celebrity excess — and media complicity.
What’s clear is that even a jar of jam is now enough to divide audiences, spark outrage, and send viewers reaching for the remote.
For GB News, the message from its audience was blunt:
Mention Meghan — and we’re gone.
And judging by the fury online, this is one culture-war that’s far from over.
