BBC The Walsh Sisters airs tonight, bringing author Marian Keyes best-selling novel series to life for the small screen.
Keyes debuted her first book around the Walsh Sisters, Watermelon, in 1995, before following up with its fan-favourite sequel Rachel’s Holiday two years later and then Angels and Anybody Out There? in 2002 and 2006, respectively.
The BBC comedy-drama revolves around five sisters who have got their own highs and lows to contend with in their 20s and 30s as they face some of the most difficult periods in their lives.
The official synopsis continues: “This is a sisterhood full of in-jokes, hand-me-down resentments and more than a few old wounds.
“But their DNA, history and shared love of power ballads keep the Walsh sisters together in the face of heartbreak, grief, addiction and parenthood.”

The six-part TV adaptation of The Walsh Sisters originally aired on RTE One and RTE Player in Ireland in September last year as its where the show is set.
More specifically, filming took place in the spring of 2025 in and around Dublin which is the Walsh sisters’ hometown in the drama.
Some more specific locations include the grounds of Terenure College, Luttrellstown Castle in Castleknock, residential areas in Blackrock, as well as coastal views in Merrion Strand.
A fan also took to Facebook last year to share pictures of the filming crew in Rathdown, County Dublin.

“Large production crew in Rathdown. Filming new RTE comedy The Walsh Sisters. Very exciting.”
Ahead of The Walsh Sisters’ BBC debut, author and executive producer Keyes shared what it was like for her during filming.

She admitted: “I cannot put words on it. It’s so weird to think that these people that came from my head are now embodied by actual humans.
“Seeing the filming, I felt so emotional, and so has my husband, because the actors that are playing the sisters are so fully realised.
“Everything from their accents to the clothes they wear to their body language is unique.
“It’s a strange and overwhelmingly wonderful feeling. It’s just lovely. It is like magic.
“The words were in my head, and now they are actual people. It’s mad and gorgeous.”
The Walsh Sisters isn’t Keyes’ only book-to-TV adaption as her novel Grown Ups is also in the works for Netflix.
Produced by the team behind Slow Horses and Heartstopper, Grown Ups revolves around the “noisy, tight-knit” Casey family from South County Dublin.
This time, “the story starts after a tragic, unexpected death forces the family to confront their lives”.
