Gethin Jones teamed up with Louise Minchin for the latest episode of BBC’s Morning Live but he had an announcement for viewers

BBC Morning Live returned to our screens on Monday (January 26) with Gethin Jones and Louise Minchin in the hotseat as they were set to welcome stars of The Traitors.

 

During the first hour they were joined by a number of guests including Nick Stapleton who chatted about banking scams and they also teased – while being careful not to drop spoilers – a chat to the winner or winners of the Claudia Winkleman game show that has kept the nation gripped in recent weeks.

 

But an hour into the programme, Gethin paused to address viewers with a show update.

He said: “Now then, we were hoping to bring you an interview with the winner or winners of The Traitors on the show this morning. Unfortunately, we’ve had to postpone this morning but we will bring it to you later down the line. What a series!”

His co-star Louise Minchin added: “We will give you a spoiler alert because we will tell you when they’re coming on the show.”

Her comment followed their earlier crossover chat with the BBC Breakfast show hosts Jon Kay and Sally Nugent as the pair teased what was coming up on Morning Live and Gethin scolded Jon for almost giving away spoilers from The Traitors final.

The unnamed Traitors stars were set to join the show following last Friday’s finale but while they didn’t appear as planned, rival daytime show ITV’s This Morning was set to welcome joint winner Stephen Libby onto the sofa.

During the final, original Traitors Stephen and Rachel Duffy triumphed and shared the prize pot of £95,750 after seeing off the remaining Faithfuls and staying loyal to each other.

And it seems viewers were thrilled with the outcome as they took to social media to air their thoughts.

One wrote: “They played a blinder x” whilst another declared: “What a perfect ending.”

 

A third commented: “They’ve actually done it wow. Two traitors for the win. The Faithfuls don’t deserve to win after what they’ve pulled.

“They’ve played a blinder Fair play to them both. Amazing television,” remarked another watcher. “Rachel and Stephen have played an absolute masterclass. They’ve earned that money,” a fellow fan of the show concluded.

It was later revealed that the series 4 finale achieved a record audience for an episode of the non-celebrity version of the BBC series.

The episode was watched by a live audience of 9.4 million viewers, peaking with 9.6 million, according to official UK viewing figures supplied by overnights.tv and reported by Deadline.
